Last Monday Neapolitan singer Pino Daniele<\/strong> died at the age of 59. He was one of Italy\u2019s best-loved singer-songwriters. Born in Naples, Pino Daniele burst onto the national musical scene in 1977 with the album Terra Mia<\/strong> (My Land), and in the ensuing years produced 26 studio albums.<\/p>\n

Pino Daniele\u2019s music was characterised by a mixture of Neapolitan tarantella, rumba, Arabian rhythms, and blues. In his early songs, written mostly in Neapolitan dialect, he described the harshness of life in Italy\u2019s South. This is well represented in one of his most famous songs Napule \u00e8<\/em><\/strong> (Naples is), which he dedicated to his beloved city. For Pino Daniele, Napoli is not only beautiful, and full of colour and life, but also frightening, smelly and dirty.<\/p>\n
