If you\u2019re planning on taking a vacation in Italy this year then pack wisely. New tourist dress code regulations (Regolamentazione dell\u2019Abbigliamento Turistico<\/strong>), which come into effect at the beginning of April 2015, could mean that many visitors to il Bel Paese<\/strong> will be in for a nasty, and expensive surprise if they don\u2019t pay careful attention to what they wear in public. The following article, taken from yesterday\u2019s edition of La Corriera Nazionale<\/strong> newspaper explains the situation in more detail:<\/span><\/p>\n

Questa in breve \u00e8 la sorpresa che aspetta molti turisti. Dopo anni di proteste da parte di numerosi cittadini privati, delle Associazioni Pro Loco, e di associazioni nazionali che salvaguardano i Beni Storici e Artistici come Italia Nostra e il Touring Club d\u2019Italia, \u00e8 finalmente passata la legge che tutela il decoro delle Citt\u00e0 d\u2019Arte italiane dall\u2019invasione di milioni di turisti malvestiti. La Regolamentazione dell\u2019Abbigliamento Turistico entrer\u00e0 in vigore il prossimo fine settimana, in coincidenza con le festivit\u00e0 pasquali. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I turisti che si presenteranno ai musei e nei centri storici delle nostre bellissime citt\u00e0 vestiti in modo non appropriato verranno multati fino ad un massimo di Euro 250,00. I look colpevoli comprendono: shorts abbinati a sandali e calze, calzoni abbassati che rivelano l\u2019abbigliamento intimo, calzoni larghi tipo cargo a mezzo polpaccio, ampi cappelli sformati, cappelli da baseball indossati alla rovescia, e altri copricapi di cattivo gusto. Sulla corretta applicazione della\u00a0Regolamentazione dell\u2019Abbigliamento Turistico vigiler\u00e0 un corpo speciale della Polizia Municipale, coadiuvato da volontari scelti fra gli studenti delle Accademie delle Belle Arti.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Informazioni sul corretto abbigliamento per turisti saranno disponibili presso tutte le ambasciate ed i consolati italiani in giro per il mondo, dove l\u2019ENIT (Ente Nazionale Italiano per il Turismo) ha istituito uno sportello apposito.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This, in brief, is the surprise awaiting many tourists. After years of protests from numerous citizens, local tourism boards and national associations that protect our historical and artistic heritage, such as Italia Nostra and The Italian Touring Club, a law controlling the decorum of Italian \u2018Cities of Art\u2019 from the invasion of millions of badly dressed tourist has finally been passed. The Tourist Dress Code Regulations will come into force next weekend to coincide with the Easter celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tourists who turn up at museums, or in the historical centre of our beautiful cities dressed inappropriately will be fined up to 250 Euro. The unacceptable \u2018look\u2019 includes: shorts worn with sandals and socks, trousers worn too\u00a0low revealing \u2018intimate clothing\u2019, baggy cargo pants that finish half way down the calf, huge deformed hats, back to front baseball caps, and other bad taste head-wear. A special branch of the Municipal Police, supported by volunteers chosen from Fine Arts students\u00a0will assure the\u00a0correct implementation of the Tourist Dress Code Regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Information for tourists on how to dress correctly will be available at all Italian embassies and consulates around the world, where ENIT (the National Body For Italian Tourism) has set up special help desks.
