In Italian, however, there are a number of different ways in which \u2018\u2013ing\u2019 can be translated. Let\u2019s have a look at three of the most common ones:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #4f81bd;font-family: Calibri;font-size: large\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>1. Il Gerundio = The Gerund<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">a. <strong>sto <span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">scrivendo <\/span>un articolo<\/strong> = I\u2019m <span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">writing<\/span> an article<br \/>\nb. <strong>stiamo <span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">spiegando<\/span> l\u2019uso del gerundio<\/strong> = we are\u00a0<span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">explaining<\/span> the use of\u00a0the gerund<br \/>\nc. <strong><span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">andando<\/span> verso la stazione\u00a0ho incontrato\u00a0Giovanni<\/strong> = I met Giovanni while I was <span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">going<\/span> towards the station<br \/>\nd. <strong><span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">girando<\/span> a sinistra si va verso Pisa<\/strong> = <span style=\"color: #9b00d3\">turning<\/span> to the left will take you towards Pisa<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #4f81bd;font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>N.B.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\">in examples a. and b. you\u2019ll see that we\u00a0use\u00a0the verb <strong><span style=\"color: #c0504d\">stare<\/span><\/strong> and not <strong>essere<\/strong> with the gerund: <strong><span style=\"color: #c0504d\">sto<\/span> scrivendo<\/strong> = I\u2019m writing,<strong> <span style=\"color: #c0504d\">stai<\/span> ascoltando<\/strong> = you\u2019re listening (informal), <strong><span style=\"color: #c0504d\">stiamo<\/span> mangiando<\/strong> = we\u2019re eating, <strong><span style=\"color: #c0504d\">state<\/span> facendo<\/strong> = you\u2019re doing\/making (plural)<br \/>\nexample c. could also be written\u00a0<strong>mentre andavo verso la stazione<\/strong> = while I was going towards the station<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #646b86\">Check these posts for more information about <strong>il gerundio:<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/il-gerundio\/\" target=\"_blank\">Il Gerundio Part 1<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #000080\"><a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/italian\/il-gerundiopart-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Il Gerundio Part 2<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #4f81bd;font-family: Calibri;font-size: large\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>2.
