A short while ago I wrote an article about my gita in sella<\/strong> with the association Farfalle in Cammino<\/strong>, which you can read <\/span>HERE<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. The founder of the association, Simona Ferrari, is a friend of mine and, as I was curious to know how Frafalle in Cammino<\/strong> came about, I asked her if she wouldn’t mind writing a brief article for us. Here\u2019s Simona\u2019s reply, with our translation into English.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tutto nacque da questo scritto che mi \u00e8 venuto fuori un giorno un po’ cupo, il 5 luglio del 2003:<\/span><\/p>\n

It all began with this piece of writing that I came up with one gloomy day in July 2003:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Vorrei poter sfiorare il mondo con la leggerezza di una farfalla, invece mi sento un elefante. Un elefante triste perch\u00e9 costretto a muoversi come in un negozio di cristalli. Molti sono elefanti per scelta, molti ci sono costretti. Ci hanno trasformato in elefanti quando vorremmo essere farfalle.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I\u2019d like to be able to skim across the world with the lightness of a butterfly, but I feel like an elephant. A sad elephant because I\u2019m forced to move around as if I\u2019m in a shop full of crystal glass. Many people are elephants by choice and many are constrained to become them. They\u2019ve turned us into elephants when we\u2019d like to be butterflies.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Ero appena tornata dal Peru dove avevo vissuto in sobriet\u00e0, convivialit\u00e0 e amicizia 3 dei mesi pi\u00f9 belli della mia vita, ma avevo anche visto tanta povert\u00e0 e tante ingiustizie e avevo cos\u00ec preso consapevolezza di volermi impegnare per un mondo migliore sotto vari punti di vista.<\/span><\/p>\n

I had just come back from Peru, where I\u2019d lived in simplicity, conviviality, and friendliness for three of the most beautiful months of my life, but I\u2019d also seen a lot of poverty and injustice. I had, therefore, become aware that I wanted to commit myself to creating a better world in various ways.<\/span><\/p>\n

In quel periodo ho conosciuto Stefano, che aveva i miei stessi obiettivi ma pi\u00f9 legati alla sua terra di origine: la Lunigiana. E cos\u00ec abbiamo messo insieme le nostre idee e le nostre forze e abbiamo creato insieme a Roberta, un’amica che condivideva tutto questo, l’associazione Farfalle in Cammino.<\/span><\/p>\n

At that time I met Stefano, who had the same objectives as me, only more connected to his place of origin: Lunigiana. And so we combined our ideas and strengths and created the association Farfalle in Cammino together with our friend Roberta who shared all our ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n

E poi abbiamo cercato di coinvolgere sempre pi\u00f9 lunigianesi, giovani e meno giovani, contagiandoli con il nostro voler fare della Lunigiana una meta da visitare con la leggerezza di un battito d’ali.<\/span><\/p>\n

We then tried to involve more and more lunigianesi (people from Lunigiana), both young and not so young, infecting them with our desire to turn Lunigiana into a destination to be visited with the lightness of a beating wing.<\/span><\/p>\n
