Hi everyone! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Some of you might be out on vacation and enjoying your time away from your home.  If so, I am so jealous! When it comes to summer, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?  Below are a collection of summer related words in Japanese. All of these are written in Kanji’s as well, so master them before the weekend is over! 😉

 

Kanji Challenge Series 2 – Summer

 

 

Summer = natsu  

夏，なつ

 

I love summer!

Watashi wa natsu ga daisuki desu.

わたしは，なつが　だいすきです。

（私は　夏が　大好きです。）

 

 

Summer vacation = natsu yasumi

夏休み，なつやすみ

 

Have a wonderful summer vacation!

Sutekina natsu yasumi o!

すてきな　なつやすみを！

（素敵な　夏休みを！）

 

 

Fireworks = hanabi

花火，はなび

 

I can’t wait to go watch the fireworks.

Hayaku hanabi o mini ikitakute shōganai.

はやく　はなび　を　みにいきたくて　しょうがない。

（早く　花火を　観に行きたくて　しょうがない。）

 

 

Swimsuit, bathing suit, swimwear = mizugi

水着，みずぎ

 

This is my favorite swimsuit.

Kore wa watashi no okiniirino mizugi desu.

これは，わたしの　おきにいりの　みずぎ　です。

（これは，私の　お気に入りの　水着　です。）

 

 

The sea, ocean = umi

海，うみ

 

I live near the ocean.

Watashi wa umi no chikaku ni sunde imasu.

わたしは，　うみの　ちかくに　すんでいます。

（私は，海の　近くに　住んでいます。）

 

 

Suntan, sunburn = hiyake 

日焼け，ひやけ

 

I got a sunburn at the beach today.

Kyo bīchi de hiyake o shite shimaimashita.

きょう　びーち　で　ひやけを　してしまいました。

（今日　ビーチで　日焼けを　してしまいました。）

 

 

Sweat = ase

汗，あせ

 

I was so sweaty at the gym today.

Kyo gimu de takusan ase o kakimashita.

きょう　じむ　で　たくさん　あせを　かきました。

（今日，ジムで　沢山　汗を　かきました。）

 

 

 

Humid = mushi atsui 

蒸し暑い，むしあつい

 

It’s so humid in Japan during the summer.

Natusno nihon wa totemo mushi atsui desu.

なつの　にほんは　とても　むしあつい　です。

（夏の　日本は　とても　蒸し暑い　です。）

 

 

So, here are the words that you learned today.

“夏，夏休み，花火，水着，海，日焼け，汗，蒸し暑い”
