The best way to form the past tense is by remembering the formation of the present tense of the verb, leave off the ending, and add <strong>\u307e\u3057\u305f<\/strong>. For example, the present tense affirmative of <strong>\u304b\u3048\u308b<\/strong> (to return) is <strong>\u304b\u3048\u308a\u307e\u3059<\/strong>. Take off the<strong> \u307e\u3059<\/strong> and add <strong>\u307e\u3057\u305f<\/strong> to the stem. You get <strong>\u304b\u3048\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f <\/strong>as the final product.
