Over the years the Japanese have gone far and beyond in displaying their prowess in many fields. The first World Expo that was held in Japan was in 1970. This Expo is called Osaka Banpaku (<strong>\u5927\u962a\u4e07\u535a<\/strong>) because it was held in Osaka. The theme of Expo \u201970 was \u201cProgress and Harmony for Mankind\u201d. One of the most famous exhibitions from this Expo was:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1494\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/tower-of-the-sun2.jpg\" aria-label=\"Tower Of The Sun2 225x300\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1494\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1494\"  alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/tower-of-the-sun2-225x300.jpg\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taiyo no to or \u201cTower of the Sun\u201d (\u592a\u967d\u306e\u5854) has three faces that represent the past, present and future.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1985, Japan hosted another World Expo called the Kokusai Kagaku Gijutsu Hakurankai (<strong>\u56fd\u969b\u79d1\u5b66\u6280\u8853\u535a\u89a7\u4f1a<\/strong>), also known in English as \u201cThe International Science Technology Exposition\u201d. This time the theme was \u201cDwellings and Surroundings- Science and Technology for Man at Home\u201d. The Expo took place in Tsukuba (<strong>\u3064\u304f\u3070\u5e02<\/strong>), which was a city in Ibaraki Prefecture (<strong>\u57ce\u770c<\/strong>). One of the most memorable attractions was the Technocosmos, which at the time was the world\u2019s tallest ferris wheel.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/technocosmos.jpg\" aria-label=\"Technocosmos 300x213\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1495\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/technocosmos-300x213.jpg\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Technocosmos was modernized and installed with solar panels with air conditioning.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1496\" style=\"width: 159px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/asimo4.jpg\" aria-label=\"Asimo4 149x300\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1496\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1496\"  alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"300\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/asimo4-149x300.jpg\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ASIMO<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The World Expo in 2005 took place in Aichi Prefecture (<strong>\u611b\u77e5\u770c<\/strong>) mainly in the town of Nagakute (<strong>\u9577\u4e45\u624b\u753a<\/strong>). The theme of this Expo was \u201cNature\u2019s Wisdom\u201d. One of the major attractions was ASIMO (<strong>\u30a2\u30b7\u30e2<\/strong>). ASIMO was a 130 centimeter robot that could walk. It was made by Honda (<strong>\u672c\u7530<\/strong>), one of Japan\u2019s major car manufacturers. Another popular attraction was a recreation of a setting in Hayao Miyazaki\u2019s famous movie \u201cMy Neighbor Totoro\u201d (<strong>\u3068\u306a\u308a\u306e\u30c8\u30c8\u30ed<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1497\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/my-neighbor-totoro.jpg\" aria-label=\"My Neighbor Totoro\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1497\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1497\"  alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"210\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2011\/07\/my-neighbor-totoro.jpg\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1497\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Recreation of &quot;My Neighbor Totoro&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even though Japan did not host the 2010 World Expo, the Japan Pavilion was still a hit in Shanghai, China. The Japan Pavilion was nicknamed the \u201cPurple Silkworm Island\u201d. The structure resembled a live cell or organism. After WWII, Japan was a country torn by postwar famine and disease.
