First, let&#8217;s learn how to form the <strong>\u3066<\/strong> form. In the next post, we&#8217;ll learn the various uses for this form.<\/p>\n<p>With RU verbs, the <strong>\u3066<\/strong> form is constructed by taking off the <strong>\u308b<\/strong> and adding <strong>\u3066<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u304a\u304d\u308b<\/strong> (to get up) becomes <strong>\u304a\u304d\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u306d\u308b<\/strong>\u00a0(to sleep) becomes<strong> \u306d\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With U verbs, it&#8217;s a little complex.<\/p>\n<p>For U verbs that end in <strong>\u304f<\/strong> drop the <strong>\u304f<\/strong> and add <strong>\u3044\u3066<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u304d\u304f<\/strong>\u00a0(to listen, to hear) becomes<strong> \u304d\u3044\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is an exception to this rule:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3044\u304f<\/strong> (to go) becomes <strong>\u3044\u3063\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For U verbs that end in <strong>\u3046<\/strong>, <strong>\u3064<\/strong>, <strong>\u308b<\/strong>, drop the last syllable and add <strong>\u3063\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3066\u3064\u3060\u3046 <\/strong>(to help) becomes <strong>\u3066\u3064\u3060\u3063\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3082\u3064<\/strong> (to hold, carry) becomes <strong>\u3082\u3063\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u306f\u3044\u308b<\/strong> (to enter) becomes <strong>\u306f\u3044\u3063\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To form the <strong>\u3066<\/strong> form of U verbs that end in <strong>\u3080<\/strong>, <strong>\u3076<\/strong>, and <strong>\u306c<\/strong>, drop the last syllable and add <strong>\u3093\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3084\u3059\u3080<\/strong> (to rest) becomes <strong>\u3084\u3059\u3093\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u306f\u3053\u3076 <\/strong>(to carry) becomes <strong>\u306f\u3053\u3093\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3057\u306c<\/strong> (to die) becomes <strong>\u3057\u3093\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To form the <strong>\u3066<\/strong> form of <strong>\u3050<\/strong> verbs, drop the <strong>\u3050<\/strong> and add <strong>\u3044\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3044\u305d\u3050<\/strong> (to hurry) becomes <strong>\u3044\u305d\u3044\u3067<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With U verbs that end in <strong>\u3059<\/strong>, drop the <strong>\u3059<\/strong> and add <strong>\u3057\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3051\u3059<\/strong> (to erase) becomes <strong>\u3051\u3057\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u3059\u308b<\/strong> (to do) is irregular and will be <strong>\u3057\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u304f\u308b<\/strong> (to come) is also irregular and will become <strong>\u304d\u3066<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\ufffd<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u3066 form will be useful to learn because it&#8217;s used for various grammatical purposes.
