{"id":20,"date":"2008-12-15T23:44:35","date_gmt":"2008-12-16T03:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/?p=20"},"modified":"2008-12-15T23:44:35","modified_gmt":"2008-12-16T03:44:35","slug":"regional-specialty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/japanese\/regional-specialty\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Food: Regional Specialty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the second post of kyoodo ryoori (<strong>\u90f7\u571f\u6599\u7406<\/strong>).\u00a0 The kyoodo ryoori (<strong>\u90f7\u571f\u6599\u7406<\/strong>) post is a montly run post where we visit a region and the special food that region is known for.\u00a0 Today, we&#8217;re gonna to check out the Kansai (<strong>\u95a2\u897f<\/strong>) region.<\/p>\n<p>The Kansai (<strong>\u95a2\u897f<\/strong>) region contains a host of famous cities like Osaka (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u5927\u962a<\/strong><\/span>), Kobe (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u795e\u6238<\/strong><\/span>), and Kyoto (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u4eac\u90fd<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 There are so many things to see and do in Kansai (<strong>\u95a2\u897f<\/strong>).\u00a0 It&#8217;s a famous region known to tourists and many restaurants are set up to cater to these tourists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"float: left\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.drecom.jp\/garouten\/img\/757\/donguri2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/>Kansai (<strong>\u95a2\u897f<\/strong>) is known for its okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 Okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>) is a pancake style dish consisting of eggs, cabbage, green onions, shimp or pork.\u00a0 First a batter is made.\u00a0 Then the ingredients are added.\u00a0 Before it&#8217;s fried, the teppan (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u9244\u677f<\/strong><\/span>) is greased with vegeatable oil.\u00a0 Then it&#8217;s fried on\u00a0the teppan (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u9244\u677f<\/strong><\/span>), which is an iron griddle.\u00a0 About a minute later, you flip the other side with a spatula.<\/p>\n<p>Some restaurants have the option of a self-serve policy where the customer fries his\/her own okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>).\u00a0 All the restaurant does is provide the teppan (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u9244\u677f<\/strong><\/span>), the batter with the desired ingredients and utensils to eat it with.\u00a0 Other restaurants have a wide open teppan (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u9244\u677f<\/strong><\/span>) where you can see a professional chef make the okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>) in front of you.\u00a0 If it&#8217;s not too cold out you can grab some hot okonomiyaki from a street vendor.\u00a0 The okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>) is folded in half and wrapped with a paper plate so that you won&#8217;t need utensils to eat it.\u00a0 The only bad thing is that street vendors do not always have the most variety when it comes to the ingredients.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>) is made, some people sprinkle some fish flakes or some soy sauce on top.\u00a0 The great thing about okonomiyaki (<span class=\"t_nihongo_kanji\"><strong>\u304a\u597d\u307f\u713c\u304d<\/strong><\/span>) is that you can put whatever you want in it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a great experimental food for all you aspiring chefs out there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the second post of kyoodo ryoori (\u90f7\u571f\u6599\u7406).\u00a0 The kyoodo ryoori (\u90f7\u571f\u6599\u7406) post is a montly run post where we visit a region and the special food that region is known for.\u00a0 Today, we&#8217;re gonna to check out the Kansai (\u95a2\u897f) region.
