In this post, let me introduce you to some of the modals that can be useful when expressing your opinions and ideas in Japanese.<\/p>\n<p>~ <strong>BEKI<\/strong> desu.<\/p>\n<p>This modal is close to &#8220;should&#8221; in English. It indicates your &#8220;strong opinion&#8221;on something.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He should go to school.\u00a0==&gt; Kare wa gakko e iku <strong>beki<\/strong> desu. \u00a0\u5f7c\u306f\u3001\u5b66\u6821\u3078\u884c\u304f\u3000<strong>\u3079\u304d<\/strong>\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff08\u304b\u308c\u306f\u3001\u304c\u3063\u3053\u3046\u3078\u3000\u3044\u304f\u3000<strong>\u3079\u304d<\/strong>\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I should learn Japanese. ==&gt; Watashi wa nihongo o benkyo suru <strong>beki<\/strong> desu. \u79c1\u306f\u3001\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u3092\u52c9\u5f37\u3059\u308b\u3000<strong>\u3079\u304d<\/strong>\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff08\u308f\u305f\u3057\u306f\u3001\u306b\u307b\u3093\u3054\u3092\u3000\u3079\u3093\u304d\u3087\u3046\u3000\u3059\u308b\u3000<strong>\u3079\u304d<\/strong>\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You should work harder. ==&gt; Kimi wa motto isshoukenmei hataraku beki desu. \u3000\u541b\u306f\u3001\u3082\u3063\u3068\u4e00\u751f\u61f8\u547d\u3000\u50cd\u304f\u3000\u3079\u304d\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff08\u304d\u307f\u306f\u3001\u3082\u3063\u3068\u3044\u3063\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3051\u3093\u3081\u3044\u3000\u306f\u305f\u3089\u304f\u3000\u3079\u304d\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>~<strong>HAZU<\/strong> DESU.<\/p>\n<p>This modal is close to &#8220;supposedly&#8221; or &#8220;is supposed to&#8221; in English.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is supposed to go to work at 10 o&#8217;clock.\u00a0==&gt; Kare wa jujini shigoto e iku<strong> hazu<\/strong> desu. \u00a0\u5f7c\u306f\u3001\u5341\u6642\u306b\u3000\u4ed5\u4e8b\u3078\u3000\u884c\u304f\u3000<strong>\u306f\u305a<\/strong>\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff08\u304b\u308c\u306f\u3001\u3058\u3085\u3046\u3058\u306b\u3000\u3057\u3054\u3068\u3078\u3000\u3044\u304f\u3000\u306f\u305a\u3000\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The item is supposed to be 1000 yen. ==&gt; Sono shinamonowa senen no <strong>hazu<\/strong> desu. \u3000\u305d\u306e\u54c1\u7269\u306f\u3001\u5343\u5186\u306e\u3000<strong>\u306f\u305a<\/strong>\u3000\u3067\u3059\u3002\u3000\uff08\u305d\u306e\u3057\u306a\u3082\u306e\u306f\u3001\u3000\u305c\u3093\u3048\u3093\u3000\u306e\u3000<strong>\u306f\u305a<\/strong>\u3000\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The movie is supposed to start at 3 o&#8217;clock. ==&gt; Sono eiga wa sanji ni hajimaru<strong> hazu<\/strong> desu. \u305d\u306e\u6620\u753b\u306f\u3001\u3000\u4e09\u6642\u306b\u59cb\u307e\u308b\u3000<strong>\u306f\u305a<\/strong>\u3000\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff08\u305d\u306e\u3048\u3044\u304c\u306f\u3001\u3055\u3093\u3058\u306b\u3000\u306f\u3058\u307e\u308b\u3000<strong>\u306f\u305a<\/strong>\u3000\u3067\u3059\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>~<b>KAMOSHIREMASEN<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This modal is close to &#8220;may&#8221; or &#8220;might&#8221; in English.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I may(might) go see the movie tomorrow. ==&gt; Ashita sono eiga o mini iku <strong>kamoshiremasen<\/strong>. \u660e\u65e5\u3001\u305d\u306e\u6620\u753b\u3092\u89b3\u306b\u3000\u884c\u304f\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093<\/strong>\u3002\uff08\u3042\u3057\u305f\u3000\u305d\u306e\u3000\u3048\u3044\u304c\u3092\u3000\u307f\u306b\u3000\u3044\u304f\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002<\/strong>\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He may(might) be close to 40 years old. ==&gt; Karewa yonju chikai <strong>kamoshiremasen.<\/strong> \u5f7c\u306f\u3001\u56db\u5341\u8fd1\u3044\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093<\/strong>\uff08\u304b\u308c\u306f\u3001\u3088\u3093\u3058\u3085\u3046\u3000\u3061\u304b\u3044\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093<\/strong>\u3002\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It may(might) rain tomorrow. ==&gt; Asu ame ga furu <strong>kamoshiremasen<\/strong>. \u660e\u65e5\u3001\u96e8\u304c\u964d\u308b\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093<\/strong>\u3002\uff08\u3042\u3059\u3000\u3042\u3081\u304c\u3000\u3075\u308b\u3000<strong>\u304b\u3082\u3057\u308c\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002<\/strong>\uff09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These modals come in handy when you want to express your opinions on something. \u00a0There are many more modals that are useful.
