While I was writing these, I heard how ramen shops try to entice women to their establishments on the Japanese news.<\/p>\n

- The restaurant specializes in western dishes<\/u>(\u6d0b\u98df), so a young \u5973\u6027can order a bowl of ramen easily<\/li>\n
- This ramen is popular<\/u>(\u4eba\u6c17\u304c\u3042\u308b) among \u5973\u6027as it has many vegetables<\/li>\n
- The ramen restaurant chain was established with an idea that “ladies would be able to come eat alone freely”<\/li>\n
- Ramen with vegetables is a special menu targeting \u5973\u6027<\/li>\n
- Even \u5973\u6027can make an additional order of noodles<\/u>(\u66ff\u3048\u7389\uff0a)<\/li>\n
- Developed so that even \u5973\u6027can eat a lot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Here is the webpage of a ramen chain, Soranoiro<\/a>.\u00a0 Those mentioned above are not from this chain except for the third one – “ladies would be able to come eat alone freely”.\u00a0 They offer vege-ramen, gluten-free ramen, and ramen for vegans to appeal many that have been ignored in the traditional<\/u>(\u5f93\u6765\u306e\u3001\u4f1d\u7d71\u7684\u306a) ramen shop industry.<\/p>\n

While there are so many ramen shops, this is a great marketing scheme to help differentiate\u00a0<\/u>(\u5dee\u5225\u5316\u3059\u308b) themselves from thousands of others.\u00a0 It is target-marketing.\u00a0 Dishes look tasty and are very different.\u00a0 I believe the owner\u2019s philosophy to offer ramen to the niche market – those who have not been able to eat ramen before \u2013 is a unique concept\u00a0<\/u>(\u30b3\u30f3\u30bb\u30d7\u30c8\u3001\u6982\u5ff5), and it seems to be very successful.\u00a0 How many times have I heard from my vegetarian and vegan friends that it is very difficult\u00a0<\/u>(\u96e3\u3057\u3044) to live in Japan.<\/p>\n
So why am I bothered by their initial concept of a \u201cramen shop where a woman can enter alone.\u201d\u00a0 I am not comfortable bringing in gender in restaurant marketing.\u00a0 I am sure gender is considered in some restaurant marketing worldwide, but not publically\u00a0<\/u>(\u516c\u306b) like in Japan.\u00a0 I would have no problem if the concept were \u201coffering ramen to those who have not been able to eat ramen before.\u201d\u00a0But this is Japan, where a TV reporter says, \u201cthis restaurant offers various salads so women can enjoy the restaurant, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
Of course, there are many women, who can enter men-filled eateries without hesitation and who love greasy meat dishes. \u00a0That will be another subject in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Gender inequality\u00a0(\u7537\u5973\u4e0d\u5e73\u7b49) still seems to be alive and strong in Japan.\u00a0 But now it has become discreet without also being ill-intentioned.\u00a0 What I mean is that nobody seems to have any idea that s\/he is discriminating\u00a0(\u5dee\u5225\u3059\u308b) or is being discriminated against.\u00a0Perhaps discrimination may be too strong of a word.\u00a0 Stereotyped, or over-generalized may be more…<\/p>\n
