The Korean officials did not provide much information regarding the meeting; it will be interesting to hear the details about the meeting on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Differences in the North and South Korean Language<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Being a linguaphile, I have been paying attention to <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc815\uc0c1<\/em><em>\ud68c\ub2f4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(summits) between <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ubbf8\uad6d\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(the U.S.) and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ubd81\ud55c\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(North Korea) in July, and between North Korea and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ub0a8\ud55c\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(South Korea) in April and today. Although both North and South Koreans speak <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ud55c\uad6d\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(the Korean language), over the seven decades, two Koreas devolved some degree of linguistic differences: vocabulary, written words, spoken words, pitch, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Korea has various <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc9c0\uc5ed\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(regional dialects), but the differences are not significant to prevent people from communicating with each other. However, between <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ubd81\ud55c\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(the North Korean language) and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ub0a8\ud55c\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(the South Korean language), there are noticeable differences regarding <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ub2e8\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(words) that originated from <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc678\uad6d\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(foreign countries). While South Korean people tend to use borrowed words from English quite often, North Koreans try to keep <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc678\ub798\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(loanwords) out of <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ud55c\uad6d\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(the Korean language). Furthermore, even when North Koreans borrow <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc601\uc5b4<\/em><em>\ub2e8\uc5b4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(English words), interestingly, the transliterationof words in North and South might be different.<\/p>\n<p>I have been fascinated by the way North Koreans create terms for English loanwords, and I have an opportunity to study a little bit of North Korean dialect and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ubb38\ud654\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(culture).
