This issue has been receiving a great deal of attention by South Korean People.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, <em><span style=\"color: #808000\">\uc5b4\ub9b0\uc774\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(children) typically receive <em><span style=\"color: #808000\">\ubb34\uc0c1\uad50\uc721\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(free education) for <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc2ed\uc774<\/em><em> \ub144<\/em><\/span> (twelve years). In most states, children between the ages of six and eighteen receive their <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc815\uaddc\uad50\uc721\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(formal education): <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ucd08\ub4f1\ud559\uad50\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(elementary school), <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc911\ud559\uad50\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(middle school), and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uace0\ub4f1\ud559\uad50\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(high school).<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, North Korea offers\u00a0<span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc758\ubb34\uad50\uc721\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(compulsory education) for twelve years as the United State does: one year of <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc720\uce58\uc6d0\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(kindergarten), five years of <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc18c\ud559\uad50\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(elementary school), three years of <em><span style=\"color: #808000\">\ucd08\uae09\uc911\ud559\uad50<\/span><\/em> (middle school), and three years of <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uace0\uae09\uc911\ud559\uad50\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(high school). South Korea is well known for a phenomenon called <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uad50\uc721\uc5f4\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(Education Fever), and people spend a tremendous amount of money on <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uacfc\uc678\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(private tutoring) and <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ud559\uc6d0\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(private afterschool academies). In an effort to reduce the high level of expenditure on <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\uc0ac\uad50\uc721 <\/em><span style=\"color: #000000\">(<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">private education),<\/span> President Moon has tried to extend <span style=\"color: #808000\"><em>\ubb34\ub8cc \uacf5\uad50\uc721\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(free public education) for high schools beyond middle schools. The South Korean government originally planned to offer free high school education from 2020 gradually, but this plan might come into effect in the fall semester of 2019.
