{"id":66,"date":"2009-02-05T19:44:27","date_gmt":"2009-02-05T23:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/korean\/?p=66"},"modified":"2009-02-05T19:44:27","modified_gmt":"2009-02-05T23:44:27","slug":"starcraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/korean\/starcraft\/","title":{"rendered":"Starcraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For all you gamers out there, this will be your favorite post!\u00a0 Today I&#8217;m going to talk about Starcraft, or sutakureputu (<strong>\uc2a4\ud0c0\ud06c\ub798\ud504\ud2b8<\/strong>), which is the way Koreans pronounce it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a little scared writing about Starcraft. The die hard fans of Starcraft might all rush to hunt me down if I fail to be accurate about the game.\u00a0 So before I write any further, please forgive me for any discrepancies!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never played Starcraft (gasp!) but I do know about the important legacy it has created in South Korea and abroad.\u00a0 (Which is what this post is about).<\/p>\n<p>For those of you who are <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">normal<\/span>, (just kidding) and don&#8217;t know anything about Starcraft, it&#8217;s a video game played by multiple players.\u00a0 From what my friends tell me, Starcraft is a strategy game where players try to battle a different race of aliens on various levels of difficulty.\u00a0 If I understood this correctly, it means that you have to &#8216;think&#8217; really hard, with the possibility that you might be killed on a virtual setting.\u00a0 This is not my idea of fun!\u00a0 My ideal computer game is where I try to line up as many gems in a row before the timer runs out.<\/p>\n<p>Not including myself, it seems that many people are addicted to Starcraft.\u00a0 I know of people who have failed a semester because of Starcraft.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve even heard of a man who lost his\u00a0home because he couldn&#8217;t put the game down to go to work!\u00a0 A friend described to me that the desire to &#8220;level up&#8221; or pass to the next level makes it difficult to stop playing the game.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always considered drugs and alcohol to be something we need to be careful towards, but maybe we should be on the lookout for Starcraft as well!<\/p>\n<p>The positive thing about Starcraft is that it has made some people very rich.\u00a0 Of course, the creators of the game are rich, but I&#8217;m not talking about the inventors of the game.\u00a0 I&#8217;m talking about the players who have competed in Starcraft competitions and are now celebrities in South Korea.\u00a0 For example, Im Yo Hwan (<strong>\uc784\uc694\ud658<\/strong>) is a multi-millionaire.\u00a0 He gets commercial endorsements in addition to the money that he earns by winning competitions.\u00a0 On top of that, he&#8217;s barely in his twenties!\u00a0 (I&#8217;m so\u00a0kicking myself for not playing more video games when I was younger!)<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a video on Starcraft and what goes on in the competition.\u00a0 Hope I&#8217;m not creating any monsters here by showing this video: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=47GLuOd3QVk\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=47GLuOd3QVk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For all you gamers out there, this will be your favorite post!\u00a0 Today I&#8217;m going to talk about Starcraft, or sutakureputu (\uc2a4\ud0c0\ud06c\ub798\ud504\ud2b8), which is the way Koreans pronounce it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a little scared writing about Starcraft.
