July 4th is the day the American colonists declared their independece from England.\u00a0 Well, Koreans also have their own Independence Day called samiljul (\uc0bc\uc77c\uc808<\/strong>).\u00a0 The name samiljul (\uc0bc\uc77c\uc808<\/strong>) was named after the March protest demonstrations.\u00a0 The demonstrations were called manseundong (\ub9cc\uc138\uc6b4\ub3d9<\/strong>).\u00a0 Coincidentally, Korea was subjugated by the Japanese the same number of years the American colonists were under British rule.\u00a0\u00a0So here’s a trivia question: what is that\u00a0number?\u00a0 The answer: 36.\u00a0 Both the\u00a0Americans and Koreans were under colonial rule for 36 years.<\/p>\n

In honor of\u00a0Samilnal (\uc0bc\uc77c\uc808<\/strong>), we’re going to take a look at the\u00a0first verse of the ehgukga (\uc560\uad6d\uac00<\/strong>).\u00a0 The ehgukga (\uc560\uad6d\uac00<\/strong>) is the Korean national anthem.<\/p>\n
