{"id":83,"date":"2009-04-05T13:50:10","date_gmt":"2009-04-05T17:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/korean\/?p=83"},"modified":"2014-08-27T17:39:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T17:39:00","slug":"korean-baseball-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/korean\/korean-baseball-players\/","title":{"rendered":"Korean Baseball Players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that the major leagues currently retain Korean-born ball players?<\/p>\n<p>Take Shin Soo Choo (<strong>\ucd94\uc2e0\uc218<\/strong>).\u00a0 He played as an outfielder for the Seattle Mariners in 2005-2006 and now he plays for the Cleveland Indians.\u00a0 He&#8217;s only 26 years old and he makes about $1.35 million a year.\u00a0 I know that&#8217;s not a lot compared to what A-rod gets, but compared to what South Korean ball players make in Korea, this is a ton of money.\u00a0 He suffered an injury and had to undergo surgery for it, but now he&#8217;s up and running.\u00a0 His nickname is &#8220;The Train&#8221;.\u00a0 It comes from his last name Choo, which sounds a lot like the sounds trains make.<\/p>\n<p>Cha Seung Bek (<strong>\ubc31\ucc28\uc2b9<\/strong>) used to be the pitcher for the Seattle Mariners in 2004 and from 2006 to 2008.\u00a0 Then he was traded to the San Diego Padres in 2008.\u00a0 His first MLB debut was on August 8th, 2008 against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.\u00a0 He pitched seven games, winning two and losing four.\u00a0 His career has been pretty rocky.\u00a0 His win-loss is 16-18.\u00a0 Earned run average is 4.83 and he has a total of 184 strikeouts.\u00a0 His first home run was in 2008 off Jaime Garcia.<\/p>\n<p>Jae Kuk Ryu (<strong>\ub958\uc81c\uad6d<\/strong>) currently pitches for the San Diego Padres.\u00a0 He made news back in 2003 for killing an osprey with his ball.\u00a0 Ospreys are protected by the state of Florida.\u00a0 He was fined for the dead bird and that&#8217;s pretty much the only notorioty he has ever received in the press.\u00a0 His win-loss is 1-3.\u00a0 Earned run average is 7.49 and his total number of strikeouts is 32.\u00a0 He bats and throws with his right hand.<\/p>\n<p>Chan Ho Park (<strong>\ubc15\ucc2c\ud638<\/strong>) is a celebrity among Koreans.\u00a0 He&#8217;s the first Korean born ball player in the U.S. major leagues and he currently pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies.\u00a0 He&#8217;s known for his fastballs and curveballs.\u00a0 He makes $2.5 million a year.\u00a0 This being a recession, I don&#8217;t think\u00a0it&#8217;s really appropriate to say that&#8217;s a small amount of money.\u00a0 There are people in this world who are making a lot less and doing a lot more for this country, so let&#8217;s just leave it at that.<\/p>\n<p>Alright, so now you have a brief idea of\u00a0who the\u00a0Korean yagu sunsoo (<strong>\uc57c\uad6c \uc120\uc218<\/strong>) or baseball players are in the major leagues.\u00a0 If they&#8217;re in your area, please go to their games and support them!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that the major leagues currently retain Korean-born ball players?
