Welcome to Transparent Language Online 1.11 Posted by on Jun 15, 2016 in For Learners, Learning Feature Updates

Last year, we launched a new version of Transparent Language Online, featuring a more intuitive design, customizable learning path, and support on more mobile platforms, among other upgrades.

We’ve enjoyed reviewing feedback from the many teachers, librarians, and individuals using the new system. While much of it was positive, there’s always room for improvement. In response to user feedback and feature requests, we’re very proud to launch version 1.11 of Transparent Language Online.

Learners can enjoy the following new features:

  • More Practice Activities—You choose which topics and skills you want to practice (and you now have more activities to choose from, including 2 new reading activities, 1 speaking activity, and 1 typing activity.)
  • Practicing on Learned Vocab—You can now use any Practice Activity with your Learned Vocab (though this will not refresh your stale vocab.)
  • New Quiz Activities—Want to quiz yourself before taking an assessment? Found in the Practice tab, Quiz Activities function the same as Practice Activities, but provide a score and feedback at the end.

  • 14 Refactored Activities—Spend less time loading activities and more time learning!

Administrators and educators will benefit from the following new features:

  • Improved List Authoring—List authoring has graduated from Flash to HTML5 and sports a new design for faster, easier list creation.lesson authoring
  • Admin Control Updates—Admins can now enable/disable the “Mark as Learned” feature, that previously allowed learners to manually designate a lesson as complete.
  • Class Code Length Increase—Admins can now create unique class codes, used to register students in a specific online class, up to 32 characters in length.
  • Removed Test Out Option—Learners can no longer “Test Out” of a lesson or unit, ensuring your students are completing all required content.

And what would an update be without some design upgrades:

  • Language Selector—The new language selector design makes it easier to switch your native language and choose from available language pairs.Language selector confirmation
  • Main Menu—The navigation bar in the Learning Path has been moved up to feature the Browse button more prominently and make it easier to find what you want to learn.
  • Assessment Titles—Assessments are highlighted in a different color in the Learning Path to differentiate them from lessons or other content.
  • Learned Vocab—The Learned Vocab chart will now show the proportion of stale to learned items.
