Children Can Learn a Language at the Library with KidSpeak™ Posted by on Oct 11, 2017 in For Libraries

KidSpeak™ is now included in all Transparent Language Online library subscriptions.

You’ve heard it before and it’s worth hearing again: the best time to start learning a new language is as early as possible. The cognitive benefits of bilingualism pay off into adulthood. For children whose parents do not speak another language and whose school district doesn’t offer languages yet, there is another viable option: your local library.

All public libraries who subscribe to Transparent Language Online now offer KidSpeak™, a fun, age-appropriate online language course. All you need is a library card to introduce your children to English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Mandarin Chinese. Designed for ages 6 and up, the program teaches words and phrases suitable for learners’ age, needs, and interests. (No “I’d like a glass of wine.” in this course!) More than 40 activities, puzzles, and songs guide learners through the basics, along with a cartoon “friend” who speaks the language.

Using the successful immersion approach preferred for young children, KidSpeak™ introduces the alphabet and word recognition, simple sentences, how to use plural and singular, how to distinguish between words that look and sound similar, simple addition and subtraction, how to tell time, number recognition (matching numbers to written words), and correct pronunciation.

Best of all, your child can learn from anywhere (once you’ve signed up at your library, of course!) KidSpeak™ works on computers, tablets, and phones so your little ones can learn on the go, at home, or in the library.

Comments:

  1. Adriana:

    Will the UK be included?

    • Transparent Language:

@Adriana It will! All libraries will have access to KidSpeak by the end 2017 (whenever a library renews its subscription this year is when it takes effect). If you have a question about a specific library feel free to email Lauren who coordinates most of our library programs: lgancarz(at)transparent.com.

  2. LIN:

Is it taught only on a Library’s computer? What about on a Home PC?

    • Transparent Language:

@LIN Hi! You have a few options. If a library near you offers Transparent Language Online (and thus KidSpeak which is housed inside of it), you can sign up using your library card and access KidSpeak both at the library, on your home PC, on your tablet, etc. You only need to the library for initial access, so you’ll want to contact your local library and ask about signing up for Transparent Language Online.

If there is no library near you that offers it, you can purchase access on your own directly from us. You can learn more about that, including pricing, here: https://home.transparent.com/homeschool

I just wanna say that I have the 10-in-1 pack, and these KidSpeaks are more than my friends, they’re my family. Y’see, I’ve made my own language called Pingasorian (Pïngasōriäno). So if it’s possible, could you maybe reboot the KidSpeak series and have it available for more languages than the original 11?
