{"id":777,"date":"2013-01-03T19:44:36","date_gmt":"2013-01-04T00:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/language-news\/?p=777"},"modified":"2020-10-02T13:52:21","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T17:52:21","slug":"tech-news-student-success-at-san-diego-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/language-news\/2013\/01\/03\/tech-news-student-success-at-san-diego-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech News: Student Success at San Diego State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Technology offers the potential to revolutionize the way that we teach and learn.\u00a0 Mobile apps, in particular, are making their mark on this generation of language learners, since apps allow learners to study on the go and use small chunks of time productively.\u00a0 The <a title=\"SDSU LARC\" href=\"http:\/\/larc.sdsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Language Acquisition Resource Center<\/a>, (LARC,) at San Diego State University has been an innovator and leader in this space, helping students use online language tools like Transparent Language Online, as well as tools designed specifically for Android and iOS devices.<\/p>\n<p>SDSU has implemented the Transparent Language flashcard app in the LARC and works with instructors and students to customize the learning material for individual instructors\u2019 curricula.\u00a0 The learning material can then be accessed on smart phones and other devices.\u00a0 This technology is used with students of Dari, Pashto, Japanese, among other languages.\u00a0 Dari instructors, for example, create learning material that pairs with the topics covered on each day of their curriculum, and they assign this material outside of class.<\/p>\n<p>Data collected on these students indicate that technology significantly augments their language learning outcomes.\u00a0 Instructors improve the learning experience further with rich visual content, native pronunciation audio content, and animation.
