As you know, &#8220;scaph\u0101&#8221; means &#8220;boat&#8221;, but what does &#8220;scaph\u012bs&#8221; mean? Scaph\u012bs is the plural ablative, which means that instead of &#8220;boat&#8221;, it&#8217;ll be &#8220;boats&#8221;. The plural ablative in the first declension will end in -\u012bs. Therefore the first sentence will be &#8220;He is sailing to the island with a boat&#8221; but the second sentence will be &#8220;He is sailing to the island with the boats&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Now, what&#8217;s the difference between these two sentences?<\/p>\n<p>(1) <strong>Ad casam\u00a0cum\u00a0vir\u014d ambul\u014d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(2) <strong>Ad casam\u00a0cum\u00a0vir\u012bs ambul\u014d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first sentence means, &#8220;I am walking to the house with a man&#8221;, and the second sentence means, &#8220;I am walking to the house with the men&#8221;.
