Underestimating Latin&#8217;s Difficulty<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_m4j8jvrgdO1rp7odgo1_500.png\" aria-label=\"Tumblr M4j8jvrgdO1rp7odgo1 500 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3735\"  alt=\"tumblr_m4j8jvrgdO1rp7odgo1_500\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_m4j8jvrgdO1rp7odgo1_500-300x240.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many people think when you say you study Latin that it is easy or simple, but this is not the case! \u00a0Latin is complex and difficult. For Harry Potter &amp; Latin Spells (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/ten-latin-spells-from-harry-potter\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), Hunger Games &amp; Ancient Rome (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/catching-fires-sparks-interest-in-ancient-rome\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), Game of Thrones &amp; Ancient Rome (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/game-of-thrones-ancient-rome-part-i\/\" target=\"_blank\">here)<\/a>, and Star Wars &amp; Ancient Rome (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/star-wars-ancient-rome\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>#3. Latin isn&#8217;t a dead language, or is it?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_maeqbiI12R1rp7odgo1_500.png\" aria-label=\"Tumblr MaeqbiI12R1rp7odgo1 500 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3739\"  alt=\"tumblr_maeqbiI12R1rp7odgo1_500\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_maeqbiI12R1rp7odgo1_500-300x240.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This can be seen with &#8220;Abbreviations that are Latin&#8221; post <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/abbreviations-that-are-latin\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>#5. Wait, so what is it trying to say?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/ee2fab028b21799b06069f75ca923e38.jpg\" aria-label=\"Ee2fab028b21799b06069f75ca923e38 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3741\"  alt=\"ee2fab028b21799b06069f75ca923e38\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/ee2fab028b21799b06069f75ca923e38-300x240.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I find this to be a common problem among students who translate sentence by sentence and do not pay attention to form or grammar. Commonly, this happens only in the first year or two- but more advanced students rarely have this problem. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/how-one-latin-sentence-can-teach-you-so-much\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> is a great post on how to address each sentence in regard to verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverb, &#8220;How One Sentence Can Teach You So Much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>#6. Latin doesn&#8217;t have articles?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_muwmldWF001rp7odgo1_500.png\" aria-label=\"Tumblr MuwmldWF001rp7odgo1 500 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3742\"  alt=\"tumblr_muwmldWF001rp7odgo1_500\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_muwmldWF001rp7odgo1_500-300x240.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I saw this one affecting me and all my peers after a while in our native language and even writing.<\/p>\n<p>#7. Priorities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/59fb1359f5eebc72c318a7fe1f94a58c.jpg\" aria-label=\"59fb1359f5eebc72c318a7fe1f94a58c 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3744\"  alt=\"59fb1359f5eebc72c318a7fe1f94a58c\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/59fb1359f5eebc72c318a7fe1f94a58c-300x240.jpg\"><\/a>Well, most people know the basic information of the Ides of March, but did you know <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/5-things-you-may-have-not-known-about-julius-caesar\/\" target=\"_blank\">these<\/a> factoids about Julius Caesar?<\/p>\n<p>#8. Latin in TV Shows.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/3b0f73243cba556ea12f6182a959e356.jpg\" aria-label=\"3b0f73243cba556ea12f6182a959e356 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3745\"  alt=\"3b0f73243cba556ea12f6182a959e356\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/3b0f73243cba556ea12f6182a959e356-300x240.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This idea is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. If I am watching some (Witches of Eastwick on Lifetime) and the Latin is incorrect or everything is in the nominative form and 1st person singular verbs-when it shouldn&#8217;t be. I go a little crazy and refuse to watch anymore. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/tv-shows-that-have-latin\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0is a post on &#8220;Latin in TV shows&#8221; that tend to get the Latin right.<\/p>\n<p>#9. Students Dropping Out Between Classes<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_m2pbmcYj8Y1rp7odgo1_500.png\" aria-label=\"Tumblr M2pbmcYj8Y1rp7odgo1 500 300x240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3746\"  alt=\"tumblr_m2pbmcYj8Y1rp7odgo1_500\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2015\/03\/tumblr_m2pbmcYj8Y1rp7odgo1_500-300x240.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is trend between quarter, semesters, or sessions that students seem to drop out of Latin course and the class get smaller and smaller until there are only a handful of people. However, fear not those who stuck with it! You have joined an elite group of individuals who have dedicated part of their lives to Latin.
