Excelsior!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>LATIN BACKGROUND: coming from the verb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/morph?l=Excelsior&amp;la=la#lexicon\">&#8220;excello<\/a>&#8221; meaning &#8220;to raise up, to elevate, to surpass, etc.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><b><strong>Adamantium<\/strong><\/b>\n<ol>\n<li>MARVEL UNIVERSE: \u201can artificially-created alloy of iron that is the most impervious substance known on Earth.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b>LATIN BACKGROUND: Adamant is used to refer to usually a hard substance. <i>Adamantite<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>adamantium<\/i>\u00a0(a metallic name derived from the\u00a0Neo-Latin\u00a0ending\u00a0<i>-ium<\/i>) are also common variants. <strong>Adamantinus<\/strong> has, throughout ancient history, referred to things that are &#8220;extremely hard,\u00a0inflexible,\u00a0invincible.<i>&#8220;<\/i> Virgil describes Tartarus as having a screeching gate protected by columns of solid adamantine (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelatinlibrary.com\/vergil\/aen4.shtml\"><i>Aeneid<\/i> book VI<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vibranium<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>MARVEL UNIVERSE: &#8220;<em>Vibranium<\/em>\u00a0is named for its ability to absorb \u201cvibratory energy,\u201d or soundwaves.\u201cMuch like the material that makes up Wolverine\u2019s claws, adamantium, Captain America\u2018s shield is made of a fictional metal called \u2018<em>vibranium<\/em>.\u2019 In the comics world, vibranium is only found in the African nation of Wakanda, where the Cap\u2019s Avengers teammate Black Panther hails from.\u201d\u00a0 (Rick Marshall, \u201c\u2018Captain America: The First Avenger\u2019: Five things that were missing from the superhero movie,\u201d IFC, July 25, 2011)<\/li>\n<li>LATIN BACKGROUND: Finding its root in the verb <em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.perseus.tufts.edu\/hopper\/morph?l=vibro&amp;la=la#lexicon\"><strong>vibro<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;<\/em> meaning &#8220;to set in tremulous motion,\u00a0to move rapidly to and fro,\u00a0to brandish,\u00a0shake,\u00a0agitate, to throw with a vibratory motion, to launch, hurl,To glimmer, glitter, gleam, scintillate<i>;&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>it is clear that this verb does a great job in describing such a type of metal as many Captain America and Black Panther fans will know.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spidey &#8211; Sense<a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/photos\/0EI_4R2r0qg\" aria-label=\"Joey Nicotra 510944 Unsplash 280x350\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4613 alignright\"  alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"350\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/joey-nicotra-510944-unsplash-280x350.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/joey-nicotra-510944-unsplash-280x350.jpg 280w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/joey-nicotra-510944-unsplash-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2019\/04\/joey-nicotra-510944-unsplash-819x1024.jpg 819w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/a><\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>MARVEL UNIVERSE: &#8220;\u201cSpider-Man, you will recall, has a\u00a0<em>\u2018spidey-sense\u2019<\/em>, which alerts him to impending disaster and gives him time to react suitably.\u201d (Giles Coren, \u201cI had my Spider-Man moment.
