Before Rome was ruled by an emperor, Rome was ruled by seven kings.<\/p>\n

The first king was Rex Romvlvvs <\/strong>or King Romulus. Historians debate whether there ever was a King Romulus, but to the ancient Romans, he was real and was considered the founder of Rome.<\/p>\n

Lucius Tarquinius Priscus<\/strong>, also known as Tarquin the Elder, was a successful warrior. He was able to defeat the Etruscans and made Rome wealthy by bringing all the plunders of war to Rome.<\/p>\n

Servius Tullius <\/strong>was the sixth king of ancient Rome. He is credited for bringing about reforms in the Roman army, religion and social class. He died when he was murdered by his own daughter.<\/p>\n

Lucius Tarquinius Superbus <\/strong>also known as Tarquin the Proud, was the last king of Rome. Tarquin\u2019s rule was corrupt and violent. The citizens revolted and abolished the system of kings in Rome.<\/p>\n
