I am notorious for getting lost.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter if I\u2019ve been somewhere a
\nhundred times before, I can still manage to get lost.\u00a0 The mode of transportation makes no
\ndifference either.\u00a0 I\u2019ll lose my way in a
\ncar, on foot, on 2 wheels, you name it.
\nLandmarks or something else that catches my eye will aid my orientation
\nmuch more than road names and turns.\u00a0 I
\ncan read a map, but if I attempt to find a place just on memory alone, I will
\nfail 9 times out of 10.<\/p>\n

I have been in Chicago on a business trip since Friday and
\nwe have gone to the same place every day-Navy Pier.\u00a0 It is not too far from our hotel, but far
\nenough that with briefcases we take a taxi or the trolley.\u00a0 I woke up early this morning to run to Navy
\nPier and what do you know, I got lost.
\nNot totally lost, but zig-zagged around a lot and actually went 3 blocks
\n(and Chicago blocks aren\u2019t small) past the hotel because I was on a street
\nparallel to the street the hotel is on.
\nGo figure.<\/p>\n

In case you are wondering why I thought to write about this,
\nit reminded me of when I lived in Oslo and I would go out for a run and
\nintentionally get lost. That sounds a bit odd, I know, but it gave me the
\nopportunity to see so much more of the city than I probably would have
\notherwise.\u00a0 It also forced me to find my
\nway around.\u00a0 As long as I know I am safe
\nand I don\u2019t have any obligations in the near future that I have to attend, I
\nthink it\u2019s kind of fun getting lost in a place that you are not totally
\nfamiliar with.<\/p>\n

I was able to find my way back to my hotel this morning and
\nget ready in time to meet my colleagues.
\nI usually don\u2019t stop to ask someone for directions because I like to
\nthink that I can figure it out myself.
\nSometimes I can, but often I cannot.
\nSo, then I have to ask for directions.
