{"id":1168,"date":"2011-08-18T13:22:44","date_gmt":"2011-08-18T13:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=1168"},"modified":"2014-08-22T17:38:44","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T17:38:44","slug":"inflyttingsfest-housewarming-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/inflyttingsfest-housewarming-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflyttingsfest-housewarming party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t own a<strong> hus<\/strong> (house), but someday when I do, I\u2019m definitely<br \/>\ngoing to throw an<strong> inflyttingsfest<\/strong>\u00a0(housewarming party).\u00a0 I have older friends that own a house, but<br \/>\nnone of my friends that are the same age as me (26) have taken that jump (or<br \/>\ncan afford it).\u00a0 In any case, in the next<br \/>\n10 years, I presume I\u2019ll attend quite a few <strong>\u00a0inflyttingsfester<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>First, I&#8217;d like to go over some vocabulary related to items in a <strong>hus<\/strong>.\u00a0 When you attend an <strong>\u00a0inflyttingsfest<\/strong>, you probably look around<br \/>\nat everything in the <strong>hus-m\u00f8bler<\/strong> (furniture), <strong>kunst<\/strong> (art), <strong>elektronikker<\/strong><br \/>\n(electronics), <strong>tekstiler<\/strong> (textiles), <strong>veggene<\/strong> (the walls), <strong>gulvet<\/strong> (the floor),<br \/>\nand of course <strong>stil<\/strong> (style)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>farger<\/strong> (colors), among other things.<\/p>\n<p>At<strong> innflyttingsfester<\/strong> that I have attended, I usually get an <strong>omvisning<\/strong> (tour) of the <strong>hus<\/strong>.\u00a0 I like when the host or hostess does this as it typically means there is nothing\u00a0they feel they need to hide from their friends and family\u00a0and they are <strong>stolt av<\/strong> (proud of) their new home.\u00a0 During the <strong>omvisning<\/strong>, you will get a good look at<strong> kj\u00f8kkenet<\/strong> (kitchen), <strong>soverommene<\/strong> (bedrooms), <strong>bad<\/strong> (bathrooms),<strong> stue<\/strong> (living room), <strong>garasjen, verandaen<\/strong> (the porch), etc.<\/p>\n<p>At any<strong> norsk fest<\/strong> (Norwegian party), it is customary to bring a small <strong>gave<\/strong> (gift) for the host\/hostess, but it is especially important at an <strong>innflyttingsfest<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Ei flaske vin<\/strong> (a bottle of wine), <strong>godteri<\/strong> (candy), or <strong>blomster<\/strong> (flowers) are all typical <strong>gaver<\/strong>.\u00a0 It is a nice gesture when a guest enters the home and introduces him or herself to the rest of the guests.\u00a0 If you are the designated driver, you best not consume any alcohol.\u00a0 There will always be non-alcohol beverages for the driver.\u00a0 I always advise taking a taxi so all guests can enjoy a drink or two:)<\/p>\n<p>It is proper to wait for the host\/hostess to eat before the guests dig in.\u00a0 Remember to say &#8220;<strong>Takk for maten<\/strong>&#8221;
