verber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weak verbs.\u00a0 Norwegian has both\u00a0<strong>svake verber<\/strong>\u00a0(endings are added to the root of the verb to form the past tense-<strong>preteritum) <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0sterke verber<\/strong> (this involves a vowel change in the root and there is often no ending at all).\u00a0 There are many fewer <strong>sterke verber <\/strong>than there are <strong>svake verber<\/strong>, so I recommend familiarizing yourself with the <strong>sterke verber <\/strong>and then it is safe to assume the rest are <strong>svake.\u00a0 <\/strong>Keep in mind that you cannot tell by looking at a verb whether it is <strong>sterk<\/strong> or<strong> svak.<\/strong>\u00a0 Additionally, rather than memorizing each form of <strong>svake verber, <\/strong>it is much easier to memorize the pattern and then be able to recognize when and how to use it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are 4 different endings for <strong>svake verber<\/strong>:\u00a0 <strong>et, te, de, dde<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following are examples of <strong>svake verber:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>VERB CLASS\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 INFINITIV\u00a0<\/strong>(infinitive)<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PRETERITUM <\/strong>(past tense)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">-ET<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 consonants<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">-TE<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0spise <\/strong>(eat), <strong>dr\u00f8mme <\/strong>(dream)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>spiste, dr\u00f8mte<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>the root ends in 1 consonant or<\/p>\n<p>some specific 2 consonant combos (ll, mm, nn, ng, nk)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">-DE<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0greie <\/strong>(be able, manage), <strong>pr\u00f8ve <\/strong>(try)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>greide, pr\u00f8vde<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>root ends in a <strong>v<\/strong> or a diphthong such as &#8216;ei&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">-DDE<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0snu\u00a0<\/strong>(turn),
