Perhaps you noticed that a Norwegian <strong>film<\/strong> had been nominated in the category \u201dBest Foreign Language Film\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Kon-Tiki<\/strong> the <strong>regiss\u00f8rer<\/strong> (directors) Joachim R\u00f8nning and Espen Sandberg recreate the famous Kon-Tiki Expedition. In 1947, the Norwegian <strong>oppdagelsesreisende<\/strong> (explorer, \u201ddiscovery traveller\u201d) Thor Heyerdahl achieved global <strong>ber\u00f8mmelse<\/strong> (fame) as he and five friends sailed all the way from South America to Polynesia in the Pacific \u2013 on a <strong>t\u00f8mmerfl\u00e5te<\/strong> (raft)! In 101 days, the six adventurers managed to cross around 7000 km (4,300 miles) of <strong>Stillehavet<\/strong> (the Pacific Ocean). The aim was to prove Heyerdahl\u2019s theory that the first inhabitants of <strong>P\u00e5ske\u00f8ya<\/strong> (the Easter Island) could plausibly have come from <strong>S\u00f8ramerika<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kon-Tiki<\/strong> is a word that fills many Norwegians with a sense of adventure and greatness. It was the name Heyerdahl gave to his raft, and to the book and documentary film he made about his expedition. In fact, this film won an Oscar in 1951! \u2013 If you go to Oslo, you should definitely visit <strong>Kon-Tiki-museet<\/strong> (the Kon-Tiki museum) on the island of <strong>Bygd\u00f8y<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of modern computer effects, it has finally been possible to recreate Heyerdahl\u2019s <strong>ekspedisjon<\/strong> [expediSHON] for <strong>det hvite lerret<\/strong> (the silver screen). The new <strong>Kon-Tiki<\/strong> was filmed in Malta, starring P\u00e5l Sverre Valheim Hagen as Thor Heyerdahl, with Agnes Kittelsen as his <strong>kj\u00e6reste<\/strong> (girlfriend) Liv.<\/p>\n<p>The film was given excellent <strong>anmeldelser<\/strong> (reviews) in Norway, where it became the most watched movie of 2012, even ahead of Hollywood. (Almost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmweb.no\/filmnytt\/article1081780.ece\">900,000<\/a> went to see it, that\u2019s about one fifth of the population!)<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Kon-Tiki did not win the prestigious statuette.
