(In case you wondered \u2013 most Norwegians have 5 weeks of holiday a year. As it\u2019s normal to dedicate chunks of that period to things like the Easter holiday, a typical Norwegian\u2019s <b>sommerferie<\/b> \u2013 summer holiday \u2013 lasts for about 3 weeks. Unless you\u2019re a student or a teacher and have a really looong <b>sommer<\/b>.)<\/p>\n<p><b>Har du pakket kofferten?<\/b> (Have you packed your suitcase?) Here are some things to remember:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Kl\u00e6r<\/b> [clare] (clothes): <b>undert\u00f8y<\/b> (underwear), <b>str\u00f8mper<\/b> (socks), <b>sko<\/b> (shoes), <b>bukser<\/b> (trousers), <b>belte<\/b> (belt), <b>skj\u00f8rt<\/b> (skirt), <b>kjole<\/b> [HYOL-eh] (woman\u2019s dress), <b>t-skjorte<\/b> (t-shirt), <b>skjorte<\/b> (shirt), <b>bluse<\/b> (blouse), <b>genser <\/b>(sweater), <b>jakke<\/b> (jacket)\u2026<\/li>\n<li><b>Badet\u00f8y<\/b> (bathing clothes): <b>badebukse<\/b> (bathing trunks), <b>bikini<\/b>, <b>badedrakt<\/b> (swinsuit), <b>h\u00e5ndkle <\/b>(towel), <b>sandaler<\/b> (sandals), <b>badeball<\/b> (beach ball)<\/li>\n<li><b>Underholdning<\/b> (entertainment): <b>iPad<\/b>, <b>mp3-spiller<\/b>, <b>b\u00f8ker<\/b> (books, the singular is <b>bok<\/b>), <b>blader<\/b> (magazines). A great thing to bring when you\u2019re travelling with others is a <b>spill<\/b> (game), like a <b>kortstokk<\/b> (a deck\/stack of cards), <b>backgammon<\/b> or <b>sjakk<\/b> (chess).<\/li>\n<li><b>Medisiner<\/b> (pharmaceutical drugs) and <b>kroppspleieprodukter<\/b> (body care products): <b>solkrem<\/b> (sun lotion \u2013 preferably with a high <b>faktor<\/b>), <b>krem<\/b> (body lotion), <b>s\u00e5pe <\/b>(soap), <b>sjampo<\/b> (shampoo), <b>deodorant<\/b>, <b>tannb\u00f8rste<\/b> (tooth brush), <b>tannkrem <\/b>(toothpaste), <b>sminke<\/b> (make-up), <b>speil<\/b> (mirror), <b>barbermaskin<\/b> (electric shaver), <b>kam<\/b> (comb), <b>solhatt<\/b> (sun hat)\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s always a good idea to bring a <b>kamera<\/b> if you see something nice! And a <b>mobiltelefon<\/b> (mobile phone) to call home.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, you won\u2019t get far without your <b>billetter<\/b> (tickets) and <b>penger <\/b>(money).<\/p>\n<p>Officially, Norwegians don\u2019t need their <b>pass<\/b> (passport) to travel to the other Nordic countries or to EU countries.
