The Norwegian athletes are taking <strong>Sotsji<\/strong> and the 2014 <strong>Vinter-OL<\/strong> by storm. So far, their chests have been adorned with 10 <strong>gullmedaljer<\/strong> (gold medals), 4 <strong>s\u00f8lv<\/strong> [sell] and 8 <strong>bronse<\/strong> [BRONGseh]. That\u2019s one <strong>gull<\/strong> more than the host nation of <strong>Russland<\/strong>, and with only two days left of the spectacle, it\u2019s likely that Norway will stay ahead in <strong>skisporet<\/strong> [SHEEspohret] (the skiing track)\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Den norske gullfesten<\/strong> (the Norwegian \u201dgold party\u201d) started two weeks ago, when <strong>skidronninga<\/strong> (\u201dthe Ski Queen\u201d) Marit Bj\u00f8rgen <strong>spurtet fra alle de andre skil\u00f8perne<\/strong> (spurted away from all the other skiers) in a 15 km race of Norway\u2019s <strong>nasjonalidrett<\/strong> (national sport), <strong>langrenn<\/strong> (cross-country skiing, literally \u201dlong run\u201d). Another star athlete, Ole Einar Bj\u00f8rndalen, didn\u2019t disappoint either, taking <strong>f\u00f8rsteplassen<\/strong> (the first place) in the <strong>skiskyting<\/strong> [SHEEsheeting] (biathlon, literally \u201dski-shooting\u201d) sprint later that day. (For those of you who\u2019re not into winter sports, biathlon is a sport where you alternate between racing on your skis and lying down in the <strong>sn\u00f8<\/strong> \u2013 snow \u2013 to fire at a target with a special kind of gun.)<\/p>\n<p>This Thursday, a <strong>lag<\/strong> (team) of four skiers won Norway its tenth gold medal in the <strong>vintersport<\/strong> known as <strong>kombinert<\/strong> (\u201dcombined\u201d). In this sport, the skiers combine <strong>langrenn<\/strong> and <strong>skihopp<\/strong> (ski jump). One of <strong>gullguttene<\/strong> (\u201dthe gold boys\u201d), Magnus Moan, later told Norwegian television:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Dette er helt sinnsykt bra. Det er artig, alts\u00e5! Jeg er s\u00e5 stolt. For en seier.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis is totally insanely good. It\u2019s fun, it is! I\u2019m so proud. What a victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bj\u00f8rgen, Bj\u00f8rndalen and Moan are still lagging behind the Norwegian medal record in Lillehammer, 1994, when the Norwegians won a total of 26 medals on their native snow. (So far, they\u2019ve got 22 medals in Sochi.)
