Nope, instead they followed the retiring <strong>is<\/strong> (ice) on its path <strong>nordover<\/strong> (northwards) to <strong>de ugjestfrie fjella<\/strong> (the unwelcoming mountains) of Norway-to-be, where <strong>kulda<\/strong> (the cold) and the sparse soil made life an uphill struggle\u2026\u00a0(Of course, the stereotypical <strong>nordmann<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Norwegian \u2013\u00a0loves climbing hills and mountains!)<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll see those Stone Age pioneers got it right when you visit <strong>det norske h\u00f8yfjellet <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0the Norwegian &#8220;high plateau&#8221; (literally: high mountain). With <strong>tregrensa<\/strong> (the &#8220;tree limit&#8221;) well below you, there&#8217;s only your friends and you, and <strong>lier<\/strong> (highland pastures) and <strong>daler<\/strong> (valleys) and <strong>fjelltopper<\/strong> (peaks) <strong>s\u00e5 langt \u00f8yet rekker<\/strong> (as far as the eye can see, literally &#8220;reaches&#8221;). The air is clean as spring water, and the enormous <strong>stillhet<\/strong> (silence) around you makes every heartbeat resonate. You&#8217;re very <strong>tett p\u00e5 himmelen<\/strong> (close to the sky\/heavens) now, so take care that you don&#8217;t become too religious! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>Om vinteren<\/strong> (in the winter)\u00a0the <strong>h\u00f8yfjell<\/strong> is like another planet where everything is white and alien. People go skiing on plains of <strong>sn\u00f8<\/strong> (snow) so thick that you often glide past the uppermost twigs of trees, jutting out of the cape.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I p\u00e5ska<\/strong> (in Easter) <strong>h\u00f8yfjellet<\/strong> gets a makeover as <strong>p\u00e5skefjellet<\/strong> (the Easter mountains), and Norwegians are swarming on the high plains, as it&#8217;s often the only place where there is still snow. <strong>Sola<\/strong> (the sun) is really hot now and its <strong>str\u00e5ler<\/strong> (rays) are reflected by the snow. Remember to dress lightly, even if there&#8217;s snow underneath you, and remember lots of <strong>solkrem<\/strong> (suntan lotion) and <strong>solbriller<\/strong> (sunglasses, shades). Otherwise, people will seriously think you&#8217;ve been vacationing in the Sahara! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>Om sommeren<\/strong> (in the summer), when there&#8217;s only snow on the highest peaks, <strong>h\u00f8yfjellet<\/strong> is popular among trekkers who often go from <strong>hytte til hytte<\/strong> (cabin to cabin).
