Guess who\u2019s the verdensmester<\/b> (World Champion) of chess? Since this is the Norwegian blog, it\u2019s of course a Norwegian: 24 years old (!) Magnus Carlsen from T\u00f8nsberg.<\/p>\n Chess may not be quite as watchable as skiing, but this month Norwegian journalists once again<\/a> hurried to Sotji i Russland<\/b> (Sochi in Russia) to cover verdensmesterskapet i sjakk 2014<\/b> (the world championship of chess 2014). I femten dager<\/b> (for fifteen days!), Carlsen defended his 2013 title as verdensmester<\/b> against 44 years old Viswanathan Anand from India. On November 23rd<\/sup>, after 11 omganger <\/b>(matches), Carlsen was declared vinner<\/b> (winner).<\/p>\n Magnus Carlsen making a move. Thanks to Intel Free Press at Flickr<\/a> (Creative Commons).<\/p><\/div>\n I hardly know anything about chess as a sport, and would be surprised if a majority of Norwegians did! \ud83d\ude42 Nevertheless, Norwegian news outlets have been very busy telling every nordmann<\/b> (Norwegian) that a landsmann<\/b> (fellow Norwegian) has brought \u00e6re <\/b>(honour) to the nation! Carlsen was even portrayed and called sjakkhelten<\/b> (the chess hero) by Se og H\u00f8r<\/b> (\u201dLook and Listen\u201d), the most trashy gossip mag you\u2019ll ever find in Norwegian!<\/p>\n When Carlsen bet Anand in 2013, the Norwegian geni<\/b> [shehNEE] (genious) was only 22 years old. So, if you want to snatch pokalen<\/b> (the trophy) from Carlsen, you\u2019d better invite a friend and get down to that board!
