<\/b>Today it\u2019s f\u00f8rste s\u00f8ndag i advent<\/b> (first Sunday of Advent). <\/b>The above poem (by Inger Hagerup) is read by many norske familier<\/b> (Norwegian families) as they tenner det f\u00f8rste lyset p\u00e5 adventskransen<\/b> (light the first candle on the Advent Wreath). Okay, I may be romanticizing Norge<\/b> a bit now, but at least the tv lady reads this poem aloud, as she smiles and strikes a fyrstikk<\/b> (match) in the studio! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Det er veldig m\u00f8rkt n\u00e5<\/b> (it\u2019s very dark now), so barn og voksne<\/b> (children and adults) in Norway are all looking forward to jula<\/b> [YOOlah] (\u2019the\u2019 Christmas \u2013 you can also say julen<\/b>). The adventskrans<\/b> is a way to spread a little lys i m\u00f8rket<\/b> (light in the darkness). It\u2019s also a countdown calendar to Christmas: The wreath (which isn\u2019t always a circle!) has four stearinlys <\/b>(stearin candles); each of the four last s\u00f8ndager<\/b> (Sundays) before jul<\/b> (Christmas), a new candle is lit (for a while). On the last Sunday, all four of them are shining!<\/p>\n
