There are currently over 100 athletes representing Norway in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.\u00a0 In case you are curious about\u00a0the\u00a0events that Norwegians have excelled in\u00a0so\u00a0far during these winter games, the following is information including navn, alder, hjemby, idrett, og medalje(r)<\/strong> (name, age, hometown, sport, and medal(s)).<\/p>\n

There are 15 sports in these winter games, all of which Norway competes in except for bob<\/strong> (bobsleigh), kunstl\u00f8p<\/strong> (figure skating), aking<\/strong> (luge), skeleton<\/strong>, and kortbane<\/strong> (short track).\u00a0 It’s interesting that Norway does not compete in figure skating, but the sport faded out of popularity.\u00a0 According to Norges Sk\u00f8yterforbund<\/strong> (Norwegian Skating Association), kunstl\u00f8p<\/strong> was very popular in Norway back in the early part of the 20th century when kunstl\u00f8p<\/strong> was in the developing stages.\u00a0 Sonja Henie from Norway was one of the greatest kunstl\u00f8pere<\/strong> of her era.\u00a0 Norway has yet to make it back to the level it was at during it’s heyday.\u00a0 There are 15 klubber<\/strong> (clubs)\u00a0with a total of 300 kunstl\u00f8pere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Norway currently has 18 medaljer, 6 gullmedaljer, 5 s\u00f8lvmedaljer, og 6 bronsemedaljer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Aksel Lund Svindal, fra L\u00f8renskog, 27 \u00e5r gammel vant en gullmedalje, en s\u00f8lvmedalje, og en bronsemedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Kjetil Jansrud, fra Stavanger, 24 \u00e5r gammel vant en s\u00f8lvmedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Skiskytting<\/span> (Biathalon)<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Emil Hegle Svendsen, fra Trondheim, 24 \u00e5r gammel, vant en s\u00f8lvmedalje og en gullmedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Petter Northug Jr., fra Mosvik, 24 \u00e5r gammel, vant en bronsemedalje og en gullmedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

-\u00d8ystein Pettersen, fra Oslo, 27 \u00e5r gammel, vant en gullmedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

-Marit Bj\u00f8rgen, fra\u00a0Trondheim, 29 \u00e5r gammel,\u00a0vant 2 gullmedaljer og en bronsemedalje.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Freestyle<\/strong><\/span>(both of these athletes won their medals in Ski Cross, a category of freestyle skiing new to the Olympics this year).<\/p>\n

Quite the range of ages and places of birth!\u00a0 Every single medal is in some form of skiing except for the one speed skating medal.\u00a0 One more reason people buy into the stereotype that ‘Nordmenn er f\u00f8dt med ski p\u00e5 beina.’<\/strong><\/p>\n
