Bojesen.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Det sn\u00f8r, det sn\u00f8r!<\/strong> (It\u2019s snowing, it\u2019s snowing!) For many Norwegians, <strong>januar<\/strong> has been a lot colder than <strong>desember<\/strong>. Many places around the country are still <strong>dekket av sn\u00f8<\/strong> (covered by snow). Here\u2019s a handful of snow words. Catch!<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>nysn\u00f8<\/strong> (new snow) is the fresh snow that has just fallen\u2026 If there\u2019s already a <strong>sn\u00f8lag<\/strong> (layer of snow) <strong>p\u00e5 bakken<\/strong> (on the ground), conditions are perfect for a quick <strong>skitur<\/strong> [SHEEtoor] (ski trip).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>sn\u00f8ball<\/strong>. Children throw <strong>sn\u00f8baller<\/strong> at each other, and some <strong>voksne<\/strong> (adults) do, too. (Especially after being hit!) Other snow <strong>leker<\/strong> (games) include building <strong>sn\u00f8menn<\/strong> (snow men; <strong>sn\u00f8mann<\/strong> in the singular) and <strong>sn\u00f8borger<\/strong> (snow castles). If you lie down on your back and use your <strong>armer og bein<\/strong> (arms and legs) to trace a circle\u00a0 on the snow surface, and then get back on your feet, you\u2019ll be looking down at an <strong>engel i sn\u00f8en<\/strong> (angel in the snow)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>sn\u00f8skuter <\/strong>(snow scooter).\u00a0This wheelless vehicle is used often used in the Norwegian countryside, for example\u00a0to make <strong>spor<\/strong> (tracks) in <strong>skiomr\u00e5der<\/strong> (ski areas).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>sn\u00f8ras<\/strong> (avalanche). Every year there\u2019s at least one major <strong>sn\u00f8ras<\/strong> somewhere in Norway. In a country with gravity, plenty of<strong> sn\u00f8<\/strong>, steep <strong>fjell<\/strong> (mountains) and deep <strong>daler<\/strong> (valleys), that\u2019s pretty inevitable. <strong>Heldigvis<\/strong> (fortunately), it\u2019s very rare that someone <strong>omkommer<\/strong> (perishes, loses their life). I\u2019ve heard several <strong>historier<\/strong> (stories) of people having been miraculously found and dug out of <strong>sn\u00f8en <\/strong>(the snow)<strong> i live<\/strong> (alive).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Would you like to make a <strong>sn\u00f8lykt<\/strong> (snow lamp)? You\u2019ll need some solid <strong>sn\u00f8<\/strong> and a <strong>stearinlys<\/strong> (candle), maybe a <strong>telys<\/strong> (tealights). Make a small circle of <strong>sn\u00f8baller<\/strong>. Place the candle in the middle. Add a smaller circle of snow balls on top. Make sure to light the candle before you <strong>legger p\u00e5 \u201dtaket\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>(put on the \u201droof\u201d)!
