{"id":204,"date":"2010-02-27T14:46:27","date_gmt":"2010-02-27T18:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=204"},"modified":"2010-02-27T14:46:27","modified_gmt":"2010-02-27T18:46:27","slug":"norwegians-in-chile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/norwegians-in-chile\/","title":{"rendered":"Norwegians in Chile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As most of you have probably already heard, a massive jordskjelv (earthquake) has just hit Chile-8.8 magnitude, <strong>det femte sterkeste skjelvet<\/strong> (the 5th strongest quake) since <strong>jordskjelver <\/strong>were measured <strong>p\u00e5 Richters skala<\/strong> (Richter&#8217;s scale) in 1900.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I thought it would be appropriate to write a post about this tragic event because there are many <strong>nordmenn<\/strong> in Chile.\u00a0 Back in 2008, <strong>kronprins<\/strong> Haakon\u00a0traveled to\u00a0Chile to visit the home of famous poet Pablo Neruda (Norwegian Kjartan Fl\u00f8gstad has recreated Neruda&#8217;s poems\u00a0<strong>p\u00e5<\/strong> <strong>norsk<\/strong>) and to attend\u00a0a reception for <strong>nordmenn<\/strong> living in Chile.\u00a0 Although I can&#8217;t find a more recent population count, there were nearly 300 <strong>nordmenn<\/strong> living in Chile at that time.\u00a0 Many are former refugees who have returned to Chile to live and about one third are Norwegian business people.\u00a0 There are alo many Chileans of Norwegian descent;
