Many foreigners go to Norway to enjoy <b>fjord og fjell<\/b> and beautiful sceneries. But how do Norwegians spend the vacation?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <b>Hjemme<\/b> [yemmeh] (at home). When your surroundings are already gorgeous, there isn\u2019t much need to go anywhere, right? Of course, many <b>nordmenn<\/b> always have <b>hytta<\/b> (\u201dthe cabin\u201d) as a way to get a bit away\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <b>Ferie i Norge<\/b> (holiday in Norway). As long as you have a <b>bil<\/b> (car), and are not afraid of <b>villmarka<\/b> (the wilderness), the possibilites are as endless as they get. Many <b>barnefamilier<\/b> (families with children) drive down south to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dyreparken.no\"> <b>Kristiansand Dyrepark<\/b><\/a> (Kristiansand Zoo) to say hello to <b>alle dyrene<\/b> (all the animals), have fun in theme areas such as <b>Kardemomme by<\/b> (Cardamom Town \u2013 from a famous children\u2019s book), and feel the thrill of shows such as <b>Kaptain Sabeltann<\/b> (Captain Sabretooth \u2013 a pirate\u2019s tale). Of course, people also go in the oppite direction. Norway is a rich country, and Norwegians travel all over the world. Many people still, however, long for <b>Syden<\/b> \u2013 a wonderful place where the sand is always golden, <b>sola<\/b> (the sun) is always hot, the people are always hot, and the drinks are perfect. Sometimes <b>Syden <\/b>means Spain, sometimes Greece, sometimes Turkey\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <b>Nabolandene<\/b> (the neighbouring countries) <b>Danmark og Sverige <\/b>aren\u2019t really <b>utlandet<\/b> (foreign countries, literally \u2019the outland\u2019). Some Norwegians enjoy going to Sweden, which has lower prices and bigger cities than Norway. And you\u2019d be surprised to hear just how many Norwegians head south to Denmark each year! With cheap <b>drikkevarer<\/b> (drinks), entertainment parks and long beaches, it\u2019s a kind of \u201dmini <b>Syden<\/b>\u201d for many Norwegians.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <b>P\u00e5 festival <\/b>(\u201dat festival\u201d). Lots of young Norwegians <b>gleder seg veldig<\/b> (look very much forward to) <b>festivalsesongen<\/b> (the festival season). From my own experience I know that there are so many Norwegians at the Danish <b>Roskilde Festival <\/b>that it almost <i>feels<\/i> Norwegian!
