Another word for the roundest of shapes is <b>runding<\/b> (\u201dround thing\u201d).<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Strek <\/b>is a common word for <b>linje<\/b> [LEENyeh] (line). When you\u2019re drawing shapes, it\u2019s hard to avoid <b>streker<\/b>. Some of them get together to make a <b>vinkel<\/b> (angle).<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">In the Norwegian flag, two blue bars cross each other and become a \u2026 <b>kors<\/b> (cross).<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">A <b>trekant <\/b>(\u201dthree-edge\u201d) is a triangle, and I\u2019m quite sure you know what the following words mean: <b>firkant<\/b>,<b> femkant<\/b>,<b> sekskant<\/b>\u2026<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">A <b>firkant<\/b> where all four <b>sider<\/b> (sides) are <b>like lange<\/b> (\u201dequally long\u201d) is a <b>kvadrat<\/b> [kvahDRAAHT]. The word, however, is much less used in ordinary speech than \u201dsquare\u201d in English. \ud83d\ude42 Most of the times, <b>firkant<\/b> will do just fine.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">As in English, some shapes are named after things in the \u201dreal world\u201d: <b>stjerne<\/b> (star), <b>halvm\u00e5ne<\/b> [HALLmawneh] (crescent), <b>hjerte<\/b> [YERteh] (heart).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">Turning these nouns into adjectives (\u201ddescription words\u201d) is easy:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Sola er rund.<\/b> (The sun is round.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Fjellet er trekantet.<\/b> (The mountain is triangular.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Hytta er firkantet.<\/b> (The cabin is rectangular\/square.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">Please note that these <b>-kantet <\/b>adjectives get an <b>-e<\/b> in some settings (when describing plural nouns and attached to definite nouns), just like most Norwegian adjectives. BUT they can also turn into <b>-kantede<\/b>, which is equally correct. (Yes, I know, poor language learners\u2026) So, you can either say <b>Har du sett det trekantete fjellet? <\/b>or <b>Har du sett det trekantede fjellet? <\/b>(Have you seen the triangular mountain?) In real life, most Norwegians would say <b>Har du sett det trekanta fjellet?<\/b> (And also: <b>Fjellet er trekanta.<\/b>) To top the confusion, that is ALSO okay to write \u2013 even if words with a-endings do look sligthly less formal to many Norwegians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Finally, we need a <b>m\u00f8nster <\/b>(pattern) for our <b>tegning<\/b> (drawing). \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Gardinet har prikker. Det er prikket(e). <\/b>(The curtain has got spots on it. It\u2019s spotted.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Genseren har striper. Den er stripet(e).<\/b> (The sweater has got stripes on it. It\u2019s striped.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Skj\u00f8rtet har blomster. Det er blomstret(e).<\/b> (The skirt has got flowers on it. It\u2019s flowered.)<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><b>Kilten har ruter. Den er rutet(e).<\/b> (The kilt has got squares on it.
