{"id":24,"date":"2009-01-01T22:16:51","date_gmt":"2009-01-02T02:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=24"},"modified":"2009-01-01T22:16:51","modified_gmt":"2009-01-02T02:16:51","slug":"godt-nyttar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/godt-nyttar\/","title":{"rendered":"Godt nytt\u00e5r!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74.jpg\" aria-label=\"Img 74\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-104\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2009\/06\/img_74-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Godt nytt\u00e5r alle sammen!\u00a0 Did any of you dodge <strong>fyrverkeri <\/strong>(fireworks) last night?\u00a0 If you did not, I know that you were not in Norway.\u00a0 Most countries outside of the U.S. seem to celebrate the new year in much better fashion than we do.\u00a0 I know Brazil, in particular has an insane new year celebration.\u00a0 However, from personal experience I can say that Norwegians know how to welcome the nytt\u00e5r pretty well.\u00a0 I had no idea what I was getting myself into.\u00a0 I arrived in Oslo the day after Christmas in 2005.\u00a0 Upon arrival to the airport, I immediately hopped on a <strong>tog <\/strong>(train) that brought me to winter wonderland-Hemsedal-the ski capital of Norway.\u00a0 Hemsedal is a huge ski area in the mountains of central Norway that brings visitors from all over the country.\u00a0 My friend had a cabin up in the mountains where I stayed for several nights.\u00a0 I walked into one hell of a party and was expected to keep up even though I had not slept in over 36 hours.\u00a0 It was a great time.<\/p>\n<p>Several days later after recovery I was staying at my friend&#8217;s house and his parents invited family and friends over for a nice <strong>nytt\u00e5rs middag <\/strong>(New Year&#8217;s dinner).\u00a0 I cannot remember all of the things we had, but I remember drinking very tasty <strong>gl\u00f8gg <\/strong>(warm\u00a0mulled wine with some sort of spirit such as brandy, vodka, or aquavit,\u00a0 with nuts and raisins in the bottom and a cinnamon stick to top it off) that complimented a fantastic dinner.\u00a0 After dinner we were politely excused and began our night of adventure.<\/p>\n<p>We drove to a party and from there we walked from place to place.\u00a0 Although I could speak Norwegian, there was something about me that must have screamed American, so nearly every person I talked to for any length of time would jump right into politics.\u00a0 <strong>Valgte du George Bush?
