This \u201dfrenzy\u201d is reflected by the language \u2013 you can <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/norwegian-compound-words\/\">prefix<\/a> <strong>jule-<\/strong> to almost any noun to \u201dChristmas it up\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>juletida <\/strong>(the Xmas time) people have been busy buying <strong>julegaver<\/strong> (Xmas presents). In Norway it\u2019s common to give a lot of presents on <strong>julaften<\/strong> (Xmas eve), so many people get <strong>julestress<\/strong> from all the <strong>juleshopping<\/strong>. Preparing <strong>julematen<\/strong> (the Xmas food) also takes it\u2019s toll \u2013 traditionally, a good hostess is supposed to have <strong>syv sorter<\/strong> (seven <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/christmas-preparations-in-norway\/\">kinds<\/a> of) <strong>julekaker<\/strong> (Xmas cookies\/cakes) ready for all <strong>julegjestene<\/strong> (the Xmas guests). Because of all the <strong>juletradisjoner<\/strong>, some Norwegians also call this time of year <strong>julestria<\/strong> \u2013 the Christmas struggle\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, by now, all your <strong>julehandel <\/strong>(Xmas shopping) is done. The last lid of the <strong>julekalender<\/strong> (Xmas calendar) has been opened and you can enjoy a bit of <strong>julekos<\/strong> (Xmas \u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/norwegians-love-kos\/\">atmosphere<\/a>\u201d) next to <strong>juletreet<\/strong> (the Xmas tree), which has been decorated with <strong>julepynt<\/strong> (Xmas decorations): <strong>julehjerter<\/strong>, <strong>julekuler<\/strong>, [electrical] <strong>julelys<\/strong> (Xmas hearts, baubles, candles) and, in the top of the tree, a <strong>julestjerne<\/strong> (Xmas star).<\/p>\n<p>While you\u2019re waiting for <strong>julenissen<\/strong> (Santa Claus), it might be time to eat some <strong>julegodteri<\/strong> (Xmas candy), or drink some <strong>julebrus<\/strong> (Xmas soft drink) with <strong>juleribba<\/strong> (the Xmas ribs) or <strong>juleskinka<\/strong> (the Xmas ham). Put on a nice <strong>julegenser<\/strong> (Xmas sweater) and watch a tv <strong>juleshow<\/strong> together with <strong>familien din<\/strong> (your family).
