You might not carry around photos of everyone you know in <strong>mobilen din<\/strong> (your mobile phone), so now and then you\u2019ll need <strong>ord<\/strong> (words) to describe somebody\u2019s <strong>utseende<\/strong> (appearance, literally \u201dout-looking\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><strong>H\u00f8y, lav, stor, kraftig, liten, tykk, tynn<\/strong> (tall, short, big, strongly built, small, thick\/stout, thin) \u2013 these basic words for body shapes work approximately as in English: <strong>Bestefaren min er en liten, tykk mann. <\/strong>(My grandfather is a little stout man.) <strong>Hun er h\u00f8y og slank<\/strong>. (She\u2019s tall and slim \u2013 well, there you got another neat adjective! \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n<p>NB! <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/big-and-small\/\"><strong>liten<\/strong><\/a> sometimes takes the feminine form <strong>lita<\/strong>, as in <strong>jenta v\u00e5r er lita og sjenert<\/strong> (our girl is small and shy).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although many outsiders think of Norwegians as the blue-eyed and blonde heroes of the TV series <em>Vikings<\/em>, people in modern Norway of course have <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/its-not-all-blond-hair-and-blue-eyes\/\">all kinds<\/a> of eye and hair colours (and skin tones):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hun har bl\u00e5\/gr\u00f8nne\/brune \u00f8yne.<\/strong> (She\u2019s got blue\/green\/brown eyes.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>H\u00e5ret hans er langt og kr\u00f8llete. <\/strong>(His hair is long and curly.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hun har kort, glatt h\u00e5r. <\/strong>(She\u2019s got short, straight hair.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Begge har blondt\/brunt\/r\u00f8dt\/svart\/lyst\/m\u00f8rkt\/hvitt\/gr\u00e5tt h\u00e5r.<\/strong> (Both have got blonde\/brown\/red\/black\/light\/dark\/white\/grey hair.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Han er skallet med skjegg og bart.<\/strong> (He\u2019s bald with beard and moustache.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of course there are many more ways to describe people\u2019s look, including <strong>alder<\/strong> (age), <strong>kl\u00e6r<\/strong> (clothing) and accessories (such as rings or tattoos).
