Above trolls, Vikings and <strong>brunost<\/strong> (Norwegian brown cheese), I&#8217;d put hiking in the Norwegian <strong>fjell<\/strong> [fyell] (mountains).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vil du bli med p\u00e5 fjelltur? <\/strong>(Do you want to go on a mountain trip with me\/us?) <strong>Fjellturer<\/strong> are a <strong>sosial aktivitet<\/strong> which makes your heart go faster! Even if you get <strong>svett p\u00e5 panna <\/strong>(\u201dsweaty on your forehead\u201d) as you struggle uphill, the most beautiful <strong>bel\u00f8nning<\/strong> (award) awaits you <strong>p\u00e5 fjelltoppen <\/strong>(on the summit): The breathtaking view across the wild Norwegian <strong>landskap!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Det er veldig enkelt \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 fjelltur.<\/strong> (It\u2019s very easy to go on a mountain trip.) <strong>Du trenger <\/strong>(you need) <strong>gode fjellst\u00f8vler<\/strong> (good mountain boots), <strong>litt vann og niste <\/strong>(some water and provisions \u2013 don\u2019t forget <strong>sjokolade<\/strong>!) and, finally, <strong>godt selskap <\/strong>(good company). Here we\u2019re taking things easy \u2013 if you\u2019re away for several days in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/a-love-letter-to-hoyfjellet\/\"><strong>h\u00f8yfjellet <\/strong><\/a>(the high mountains), of course, you\u2019ll also need pro equipment such as a <strong>telt<\/strong> (tent), as well as <strong>kart og kompass<\/strong> (map and compass). Hiking alone is <em>never<\/em> a good idea \u2013 no matter how small and safe the local mountain may seem, there\u2019s no guarantee you won\u2019t stumble and hurt your leg, for example, and in that case you\u2019ll need another person\u2019s help! \ud83d\ude42 If in doubt, remember the most important point of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/fjellvettreglene\/\"><strong>Fjellvettreglene<\/strong><\/a> (\u201dthe Rules of Good Sense in the Mountains\u201d): <strong>Det er ingen skam \u00e5 snu<\/strong>. (There\u2019s no shame in going back.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ut p\u00e5 tur aldri sur! <\/strong>(Out on a trip, never sulky!) goes a famous Norwegian saying. A Polish scientist (I forgot her name) once said that unlike most Europeans, Norwegians don\u2019t go to a bar to solve their problems \u2013 they go hiking, then return from the <strong>fjell <\/strong>with a fresh perspective on things. I guess this explains why many foreigners get this idea of Norwegians as super-optimistic! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>A special thing about Norway is that even city dwellers have easy access to <strong>naturen <\/strong>(Nature). When I was living in Bergen, I could walk for a few blocks, and I\u2019d be on a mountain! If you\u2019re in Norway right now, I hope you\u2019ll have a chance to get out and enjoy <strong>h\u00f8stens farger <\/strong>(the autumn colours). And oh, there are no grizzly bears in Norway \u2013 if you meet any wild animals at all, they\u2019ll probably run away from <em>you! <\/em>\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Lots of Norwegian songs praise the beauty of the mountains \u2013 for example the old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tunkatten.no\/download?objectPath=upload_images%2FF2F956842DA34BF885BD0846C8C0FC44.pdf\">folk tune<\/a> <strong><em>Hu hei! Kor er det vel friskt og lett<\/em><\/strong> (\u201dHoo hi!
