{"id":29,"date":"2009-01-19T09:25:26","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T13:25:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=29"},"modified":"2009-01-19T09:25:26","modified_gmt":"2009-01-19T13:25:26","slug":"head-shoulders-knees-and-toes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/head-shoulders-knees-and-toes\/","title":{"rendered":"Head, shoulders, knees and toes!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hodet, skuldrer, kne og t\u00e5!<\/strong> Let&#8217;s talk about the\u00a0<strong>kropp <\/strong>(body) in this post.\u00a0 My <strong>kropp <\/strong>has not felt great lately.\u00a0 We just came out of an arctic spell&#8230;I think we endured 86 hours straight of subzero <strong>temperaturer<\/strong>.\u00a0 Today is the first relatively nice day (no less than a 45 degree\u00a0<strong>temperatur<\/strong> increase from a week ago when we were at negative 22 <strong>grader<\/strong>).\u00a0 So finally I was able to get outside with my <strong>valp <\/strong>(puppy) and <strong>trene litt <\/strong>(exercise a little bit).\u00a0 As we all know, <strong>kroppen <\/strong>(the body) needs physical exercise to function\u00a0optimally\u00a0mentally <strong>(mentalsk), <\/strong>physically <strong>(fysisk) <\/strong>and psychologically <strong>(psykologisk). <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>hodet<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0the head\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>ryggen <\/strong>-the back\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>kinner <\/strong>&#8211; cheeks<\/p>\n<p><strong>magen <\/strong>-the stomach\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>\u00f8re &#8211;<\/strong>ear\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>tenner &#8211; <\/strong>teeth<\/p>\n<p><strong>et bein &#8211; <\/strong>a leg\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>\u00f8yner <\/strong>-eyes\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>nese <\/strong>-nose<\/p>\n<p><strong>armen <\/strong>&#8211; the arm\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>lepper &#8211; <\/strong>lips\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>en fot &#8211; <\/strong>a foot<\/p>\n<p><strong>rumpe <\/strong>-butt\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>fingrer &#8211;<\/strong>fingers\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>en h\u00e5nd <\/strong>-a hand<\/p>\n<p>As you can tell, there are quite a few cognates.\u00a0 <strong>Magen <\/strong>and <strong>ryggen <\/strong>are probably the 2 body parts that do not resemble their English counterparts.\u00a0 I feel like at this point in the year my <strong>mage <\/strong>is at it&#8217;s largest (you know, pack on the winter warmth), and my <strong>rygge <\/strong>hurts (too much lying around).\u00a0 It has been so cold that all we want to do and all that is\u00a0recommended by doctors is\u00a0to stay\u00a0inside and eat warm, hearty food.\u00a0 This means lots of extra calories ingested and lots of hours watching movies.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called\u00a0January hibernation in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Today was a nice 25 <strong>grader <\/strong>so I was able to go outside and take my <strong>valp <\/strong>for a jog.\u00a0 And now&#8230;.<strong>beinene mine <\/strong>(my legs) hurt, <strong>f\u00f8ttene mine<\/strong> (my feet) are <strong>s\u00e5r <\/strong>(sore) and <strong>hele kroppen <\/strong>(whole body) is t<strong>r\u00f8tt <\/strong>(tired).<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s learn a little vocab to describe\u00a0things related to the body.\u00a0 What can most people probably benefit from more of?<\/p>\n<p><strong>sovn <\/strong>(sleep), <strong>trening <\/strong>(excercise), <strong>sunn mat <\/strong>(healthy food), <strong>mindre tv <\/strong>(less tv), <strong>sol <\/strong>(sun), <strong>\u00e5 lese <\/strong>(to read).<\/p>\n<p>And what could people\u00a0live without?<\/p>\n<p><strong>r\u00f8yking <\/strong>(smoking), <strong>alkohol <\/strong>(alcohol), <strong>datamaskinspiller <\/strong>(computer games), <strong>\u00e5 v\u00e6re innend\u00f8rs <\/strong>(to be inside), <strong>usunn mat <\/strong>(unhealthy food).<\/p>\n<p>Everyone knows though, that it is unhealthy to try to be perfectly healthy.\u00a0 It is impossible to stay sane in this world while trying to choose the healthiest option all the time.\u00a0 So, as we have all heard time and time again, it is of utmost importance to find <strong>balans <\/strong>in life.\u00a0 Everyone&#8217;s <strong>balans <\/strong>is going to look a little different, but it&#8217;s something we could all benefit from and something I think we can look to Norway for inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Norwegians seem to be very healthy people.\u00a0 They typically smoke and drink less than most other European countries, eat well, have ample leisure time, practice gender equality, have a low mortality rate, lots of clean air, and are generally happy people.\u00a0 When I applaud Norwegians for being a healthy people, I am certainly not saying that other cultures aren&#8217;t equally as healthy.\u00a0 I just have more first-hand experience with them.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the rest of the day I&#8217;m going to be distracted at work trying to figure out how I can find that perfect <strong>balans <\/strong>in my life&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hodet, skuldrer, kne og t\u00e5!
