{"id":400,"date":"2010-06-22T01:53:29","date_gmt":"2010-06-22T01:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=400"},"modified":"2010-06-22T01:53:29","modified_gmt":"2010-06-22T01:53:29","slug":"father%c2%b4s-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/father%c2%b4s-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Father\u00b4s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I g\u00e5r<\/strong> (yesterday) was\u00a0<strong>farsdagen<\/strong> (Father\u00b4s Day) here in the U.S. \u00a0In Norway <strong>farsdagen<\/strong> is celebrated on the second <strong>s\u00f8ndag<\/strong> in november. \u00a0As in the U.S. and many other countries in the world, <strong>farsdagen<\/strong> is day for <strong>\u00e5 \u00e6re fedre <\/strong>(to honor fathers). \u00a0<strong>Farsdagen<\/strong> was first observed in the early 20th century in the U.S. as a result of a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. \u00a0Sonora\u00b4s father was a veteran of <strong>borgerkrigen<\/strong> (the civil war) and was left to parent Sonora and her 5 <strong>s\u00f8sken<\/strong> (siblings) after their <strong>mor<\/strong> (mother) died during\u00a0<strong>f\u00f8dselen<\/strong> (the birth) of their 6th barn (child). \u00a0As <strong>morsdagen<\/strong> (Mother\u00b4s Day) had already been established as a <strong>helligdag <\/strong>to celebrate <strong>m\u00f8dre<\/strong> (mothers), it seemed <strong>naturlig <\/strong>(natural) to dedicate a day in observance of <strong>fedre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Norway <strong>er det tradisjon<\/strong> (it is tradition) to<strong> \u00e6re fedre<\/strong> with <strong>frokost p\u00e5 senga<\/strong> (breakfast in bed), <strong>et kort<\/strong> (a card), <strong>en gave<\/strong> (a present), or <strong>helt enkelt<\/strong> (quite simply) <strong>ved \u00e5 gratulere med farsdagen<\/strong> (with a Father\u00b4s Day congratulation).<\/p>\n<p>I found a list of suggested <strong>gavetips<\/strong> (gift tips) for <strong>farsdagen<\/strong> that included items I have either given <strong>pappa <\/strong>or thought about giving<strong> pappa<\/strong>, such as <strong>sokker<\/strong> (socks), <strong>slips<\/strong> (tie), <strong>gavekort<\/strong> (gift card), <strong>universiell fjernkontroll<\/strong> (universal remote control), <strong>Leatherman multiverkt\u00f8y<\/strong> (multi-tool), and\u00a0<strong>b\u00f8ker <\/strong>(books). \u00a0This year I got my dad a set of anchor cuff links. <strong> Han liker \u00e5 seile<\/strong> (He likes to sail).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fedre<\/strong> are great, aren\u00b4t they? \u00a0What do you like to do with <strong>faren din <\/strong>(your father)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Min favoritt ting \u00e5 gj\u00f8re med pappa er \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 sykkeltur. <\/strong>My favorite thing to do with dad is going on biking trips.<\/p>\n<p>And some useful phrases that could come in handy<strong> p\u00e5 farsdagen<\/strong>&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faren min har gjort meg interessert i<\/strong>&#8230;&#8230; My father has interested me in&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeg er takknemlig for pappa fordi<\/strong>&#8230;. I am thankful for dad because&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeg husker ________ om pappa fra bardom<\/strong>men min&#8230;&#8230;. I remember_______ about dad from my childhood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pappa og jeg skal _______ p\u00e5 farsdagen<\/strong>&#8230;&#8230;..
