{"id":444,"date":"2010-07-27T10:37:11","date_gmt":"2010-07-27T10:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=444"},"modified":"2010-07-27T10:37:11","modified_gmt":"2010-07-27T10:37:11","slug":"moving-to-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/moving-to-norway\/","title":{"rendered":"Moving to Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry for the long hiatus without any posts. \u00a0I\u00b4ve been a little busy moving to Norway&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Moving to another country is no easy task. \u00a0I\u00b4ve never even moved to another city in my own country, just to and from college dorms and houses. \u00a0I guess I did move to Oslo to study for a semester in college, but since I was on a sort of exchange program, it was a little different than to move here by myself to live and work. \u00a0Well, not by myself, I took my dog with me. \u00a0So, I will give you an idea of what it has been like so far to make all the necessary arrangements both at home and in Norway to make this move.<\/p>\n<p>Americans can be in Norway for 90 days without a VISA, so you can really come here without any plan and try to find a job or just travel around for a while if you want to, without making huge arrangements. \u00a0However, it is certainly a better idea to have some sort of plan. \u00a0So, I got hired working as a <strong>vikar<\/strong> (substitute) \u00a0for a substitute teaching agency. \u00a0I received the <strong>arbeidskontrakt <\/strong>(work contract), gathered all the necessary <strong>dokumenter<\/strong> (documents) I needed to have, such as <strong>attester <\/strong>(letters of recommendation) that described where I have worked and what I have done that relates to the <strong>jobb (<\/strong>jobb) I will have here in Norway. \u00a0I also of course needed to have a<strong> gyldig \u00a0pass <\/strong>(valid passport).<\/p>\n<p>As for finding a place to live, I searched for hours and hours on finn.no and zett.no for a <strong>leilighet <\/strong>(apartment). \u00a0<strong>Endelig<\/strong> (Finally), I found one that seemed affordable enough and allowed a dog, so I paid for the first months husleie (rent), even though I would only be in it for 7 days in the month. \u00a0Oh well-I was desperate and had to take what I could get. \u00a0It\u00b4s <strong>en liten leilighet <\/strong>(a small apartment), but it\u00b4s quite <strong>koselig <\/strong>(cozy) for me and <strong>hunden min<\/strong> (my dog). \u00a0I\u00b4ve got all the bare necessities, <strong>kj\u00f8leskap<\/strong> (fridge), <strong>mikrob\u00f8lgovnen<\/strong> (microwave), <strong>vaskemaskin<\/strong> (washer),\u00a0<strong>oppvaskemaskin <\/strong>(dishwasher), TV,<strong> seng<\/strong> (bed), <strong>bord<\/strong> (table), and such. \u00a0There is unfortunately no IKEA north of Trondheim in Norway, so I have bought things like <strong>kj\u00f8kkenutstyr <\/strong>(kitchen stuff) and a <strong>dyne<\/strong> (comforter), <strong>puter <\/strong>(pillows), o.s.v. at a store equivalent to Target maybe, but much smaller.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, I am experiencing problems with almost everything, from my cabel TV and internet not functioning properly, to my drains being plugged, to someone else using my <strong>sportsbod <\/strong>(small stall where you can lock up your bike or my dog\u00b4s <strong>bur<\/strong> -crate- <strong>for eksempel<\/strong>). \u00a0Not to mention getting the<strong> esker<\/strong> (boxes) I sent almost 2 weeks ago, <strong>registering av min ny adresse<\/strong> (registering my new address). \u00a0I shall keep you posted on how I <strong>ordne<\/strong> (take care of) these things. \u00a0Then hopefully if you ever <strong>flytte til Norge<\/strong> (move to Norway), you will have an idea of how to jump through all of the hoops!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry for the long hiatus without any posts. \u00a0I\u00b4ve been a little busy moving to Norway&#8230;.
