the Children Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I cannot start to work without an arbeidstillatelse (work visa), I thought it only make sense that I do engage in some <strong>frivillig arbeid<\/strong>(voluntary work) here in Troms\u00f8.\u00a0 It just so happens that there is another girl from Minnesota here in Troms\u00f8 that shares quite a few mutual friends with me from back home.\u00a0 I was given her name by someone at home and it was recommended that I get in touch with her just because it makes sense:)\u00a0 There can&#8217;t be too many of us Minnesotans here in Troms\u00f8; it&#8217;s always nice to meet someone from home who is familiar with the same annual events such as the State Fair and the Twins.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been feeling bad for ourselves that we couldn&#8217;t partake in the festivities at home.\u00a0 But there is certainly plenty to do here in Troms\u00f8 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, this new friend got me into <strong>Redd Barna Troms\u00f8<\/strong> (Save the Children-Troms\u00f8 division).\u00a0 I have never worked with this organization before, but was familiar with it.\u00a0 I have always taken an interest in the movement of people over national borders and thus was quite excited to know someone who works in this field and be able to experience\u00a0working within such a large and well-known international organization.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been to several meetings so far and if I get to stay here in Norway, will likely partake in many more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Redd Barna Troms\u00f8<\/strong> is an very active branch of <strong>Redd Barna Norge<\/strong> that arranges activities for <strong>asyls\u00f8kere<\/strong> (asylum seekers) that have moved to the Troms\u00f8 area.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Red Barna Norge&#8217;s<\/strong> primary objectives include fighting for <strong>barns rettigheter <\/strong>(children&#8217;s rights) so that they can live a safe and rich life here in Norway.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Redd Barna<\/strong> works\u00a0to prevent and respond to\u00a0<strong>vold mot barn<\/strong> (violence against children) and to assist children with assimilation and solidarity in Norwegian schools.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the activities that <strong>Redd Barna<\/strong> <strong>Troms\u00f8<\/strong> has arranged in the past include the following:<\/p>\n<p>-a trip up<strong> Fjellheisen<\/strong>, a cable car that takes you up the mountain in Tromsdalen that gives you a fantastic view of Troms\u00f8 below<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>\u00e5 ake<\/strong> (go sledding)<\/p>\n<p>-a trip to <strong>Polaria<\/strong> (the Polar Museum)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>\u00e5 bowle<\/strong> (go bowling)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>\u00e5 kose seg med internasjonalt mat og selskap<\/strong> (enjoy onesself with international food and company)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>\u00e5 leke p\u00e5 Legoland<\/strong> (playing at Legoland)<\/p>\n<p>and other such activities that both very young children and older children (up to early teens) can enjoy with their families.<\/p>\n<p>I was just out delivering flyers to several places in the city for the first event-velkomsfesten (the welcome party).\u00a0 There is a<strong> mottaksenter<\/strong> (asylum center) and a <strong>voksenoppl\u00e6ringskole<\/strong> (adult learning school) for immigrants <strong>\u00e5 l\u00e6re norsk for eksempel<\/strong> that we delivered the message to.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to getting more involved with <strong>Redd Barna<\/strong> here in
