{"id":548,"date":"2010-09-14T14:02:14","date_gmt":"2010-09-14T14:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=548"},"modified":"2010-09-14T14:02:14","modified_gmt":"2010-09-14T14:02:14","slug":"salangen-hunting-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/salangen-hunting-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"Salangen Hunting Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1056.jpg\" aria-label=\"IMG 1056 300x225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-549\" title=\"IMG_1056\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1056-300x225.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1065.jpg\" aria-label=\"IMG 1065 225x300\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-550\" title=\"IMG_1065\"  alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1065-225x300.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have recently gotten back from my first <strong>jakttur <\/strong>(hunting trip) and could not have had a better time. \u00a0Although I didn\u00b4t have a <strong>hagle <\/strong>(shotgun), it was an absolutely incredible experience just to be there. \u00a0I was more of a spotter \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0We were hunting for <strong>fjellrype<\/strong> (mountain grouse), which are very well camoflauged with the gray mountainous background, so keeping one\u00b4s eyes peeled is very important.<\/p>\n<p>We took off on Thursday afternoon with a group of 8 of us (me, my friend who is in his mid-20s like myself, and 6 men in their 40s and 50s, one English Setter and my dog Stella, a Weimaraner). \u00a0I guess it took us about 4 hours to hike up to the <strong>Salangen Jeger og Fisker Forening hytter <\/strong>(Salangen Township Hunter and Fisherman Club cabins). \u00a0There were many <strong>pauser<\/strong> (breaks) to rest our legs and <strong>drikke pils <\/strong>\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0Those who think ahead drive up refreshments and non-perishables via <strong>snyscooter<\/strong> (snowmobile) during the winter so their <strong>ryggsekker <\/strong>(backpacks) aren\u00b4t so heavy. \u00a0We didn\u00b4t do that, so ours were heavy. \u00a0But it is important to have enough <strong>r\u00f8dvin<\/strong> and <strong>pils<\/strong> for the <strong>tur<\/strong>. \u00a0In fact, one of the guys ran out of <strong>r\u00f8dvin<\/strong> and <strong>r\u00f8yk<\/strong> (cigarettes), so he actually walked down, purchased more goods, and walked back up-took a whole day!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1073.jpg\" aria-label=\"IMG 1073 300x225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-551\" title=\"IMG_1073\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1073-300x225.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once we got up, it was relax to the max in the evening, and walk for miles and miles all day long. \u00a0I think the first and second day we were out for 10 hours each and the third day 6 or 7-<strong>kjempegod trening<\/strong> (very good exercise)! \u00a0I haven\u00b4t been hiking in the mountains for nearly 10 years, so it was certainly <strong>litt tungt <\/strong>(a little tough-heavy), but felt great \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0We took plenty of <strong>pauser<\/strong> to refuel with <strong>br\u00f8dskiver, n\u00f8tter og sjokolade<\/strong> (nuts and chocolate), and\u00a0<strong>te<\/strong> (tea) or <strong>kaffe<\/strong>. \u00a0There are bekker (creeks) all over so it was no problem to find clean drinking water-especially for the <strong>hunder <\/strong>(dogs). \u00a0They got treated to p\u00f8lser (sausages) with high calories especially made for <strong>hunder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1096.jpg\" aria-label=\"IMG 1096 300x225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-552\" title=\"IMG_1096\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1096-300x225.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My dog, aweimaraner- the world\u00b4s oldest breed of bird hunting dogs-was not interested in finding <strong>fuglene<\/strong> (the birds) like her new friend Freia, the English Setter. \u00a0I\u00b4m not sure if Stella was too old to <strong>l\u00e6re \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 jakt <\/strong>(learn to go hunting) or if her sense of smell isn\u00b4t as good as it used to be, but she couldn\u00b4t seem to do the job she was made for. \u00a0It was cool, however, to see Freia <strong>ta stand<\/strong> (take stand), her owner<strong> skyte en rype<\/strong> (shoot a grouse), and Stella <strong>apportere den<\/strong> (retrieve it)-<strong>bra samarbeid <\/strong>(good cooperation)! \u00a0I swear that Freia ran and ran 10 times as far as we walked. \u00a0I don\u00b4t know how those dogs do it!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1103.jpg\" aria-label=\"IMG 1103 300x225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-553\" title=\"IMG_1103\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2010\/09\/IMG_1103-300x225.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In total, we got 17 <strong>rypa<\/strong>, more than enough to feed us all on Saturday night when we had a fantastic <strong>rypemiddag<\/strong> (grouse dinner) with <strong>poteter, gr\u00f8nnsaker <\/strong>(vegetables), <strong>tytteb\u00e6r <\/strong>(cloudberries), and the most amazing cream sauce with Pakistansk <strong>krydder <\/strong>(spices) ever-and lots of <strong>r\u00f8dvin<\/strong> \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0For a midnight snack afterwords, one of the guys fried <strong>rypel\u00e5r<\/strong> (grouse thighs) that were better than any chicken thigh or drumstick that I have ever had, <strong>UTEN TVIL<\/strong> (without a doubt)!
