Keep eating pork.\u00a0 If you read just the headlines, chances are you are going to think that <strong>svineinfluensa <\/strong>or swine-flu implies that we can get this disease from eating pork.\u00a0 We know that the virus contains genetic material from pigs, birds, and humans.\u00a0 But there are no known instances of humans contracting the disease from animals.\u00a0 Only from humans.\u00a0 Humans to humans.\u00a0 It&#8217;s too bad though that most people don&#8217;t read entire articles.\u00a0 Most people probably don&#8217;t even look at a newspaper at all, much less read an entire article.\u00a0 Those who do read the newspaper, watch the news, or check out news on the internet, probably concentrate on the headlines.\u00a0 After all, one would think that if one has limited time, the headlines should relay the most important information.\u00a0 I wouldn&#8217;t say that any headline with the word or phrase &#8220;<strong>svineinfluensa&#8221; <\/strong>by itself informs the public of the most important part of the issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t figured it out yet, <strong>svin <\/strong>means something to do with pigs in Norwegian.\u00a0 The word for &#8216;pig&#8217; is <strong>gris.\u00a0 En gris <\/strong>= a pig.\u00a0 <strong>Grisen <\/strong>=the pig.\u00a0 <strong>Griser <\/strong>=pigs.\u00a0 <strong>Grisene <\/strong>=the pigs.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t say &#8220;griss&#8221; with a short &#8216;i,&#8217; but rather &#8220;greeeeeeese&#8221; as in &#8220;geese&#8221; with an r after the g.\u00a0 And <strong>svin <\/strong>means &#8216;swine.&#8217;\u00a0 <strong>Svinekj\u00f8tt <\/strong>means &#8216;pork.&#8217;\u00a0 <strong>Svinekotelett <\/strong>means &#8216;pork chop.&#8217;\u00a0 <strong>Svinestek <\/strong>means &#8216;roast pork.&#8217;\u00a0 As the girlfriend of a pig farmer, pork producer, hog farmer, whatever you want to call him, I must say that I used to dislike most pork products, but after I ate GOOD pork (i.e. not super charred pork chops, insane pulled pork sandwiches, etc.) I realized that you don&#8217;t have to cook it until it&#8217;s so dry that you need to drink liquid at the same time as you swallow it.\u00a0 So I encourage you all to keep eating pork and once this virus has done it&#8217;s thing, eat pork a little pink.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t overkill it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just a little more trivia for you involving the word &#8216;pig&#8217; or <strong>gris.\u00a0 <\/strong>A piggybank is called <strong>en sparegris <\/strong>which derives from the verb &#8220;<strong>\u00e5 spare<\/strong>&#8221; (to spare) and <strong>gris <\/strong>(pig).\u00a0 A pig sty is <strong>en grisebinge.\u00a0 <\/strong>Pigtail (in terms of hairstyles) is <strong>hestehale <\/strong>(which literally means &#8216;horse-tail&#8217;) and pigtails means <strong>musefletter <\/strong>(<strong>muse <\/strong>means &#8216;mouse&#8217; and <strong>fletter <\/strong>means &#8216;braids.&#8217;\u00a0 For some reason in Norwegian &#8216;pigtails&#8217; involve the words &#8216;mouse&#8217; and &#8216;braids.&#8217;\u00a0 I wonder where that comes from.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vask hendene og bli hjemme hvis du er syk.\u00a0 <\/strong>Wash your hands and stay home if you are sick.\u00a0 But keep eating pork!<\/p>\n<p>Check out aftenposten.no and see if you can understand any of the headlines or the stories!\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NEW influensa virus.\u00a0 Det nye influensa viruset.\u00a0 Not the swine flu or the pig flu.\u00a0 I feel that I must do my part and inform as many people as possible that public health officials have said over and over again that humans cannot get sick from eating pork products.
