{"id":936,"date":"2011-04-12T01:27:49","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T01:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/?p=936"},"modified":"2017-08-02T14:18:44","modified_gmt":"2017-08-02T14:18:44","slug":"bicycling-in-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/bicycling-in-norway\/","title":{"rendered":"Bicycling in Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Biking is one of my favorite activities and Norway is my favorite place to be away from home.<\/p>\n<p>I have yet to complete a biking trip in Norway. \u00a0This is definitely on my bucket list. \u00a0I lived in Troms\u00f8 this past summer and bought a hybrid bike for pleasure yes, but mostly for transportation from my apartment into town and elsewhere on the island. \u00a0At home in MN, I have become so used to road biking that to be on a hybrid again was like wearing 5 pound shoes. \u00a0Therefore, I didn&#8217;t do much recreational cycling, which I now regret.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2369\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2011\/04\/norway-68742_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"biking in norway\" width=\"960\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2011\/04\/norway-68742_960_720.jpg 960w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2011\/04\/norway-68742_960_720-350x229.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/norwegian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2011\/04\/norway-68742_960_720-768x502.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, that won&#8217;t stop me from either lugging my bike there or renting one and going on a trip with the sole purpose of biking. \u00a0All regions of Norway are special in their own way, but island hopping on the west coast would be my first choice. \u00a0Crossing bridges, enjoying breaks on ferry rides, and \u00a0opportunities to fish sounds absolutely delightful to me, not to mention the occasional refreshing dive into the Atlantic to cool off and relax the muscles. \u00a0There are endless spots to stop and take pictures and simply enjoy the magnificent scenery. \u00a0There are also plenty of \u00a0accommodations for food and lodging, whether you are interested in camping or staying in a full service vacation house.<\/p>\n<p>There is quite a bit of information on the internet for you to consult if you are interesting in a cycling trip in Norway. \u00a0The three best websites that I have found are the following:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bike-norway.com\/engelsk.asp\">Bike Norway<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitnorway.com\/en\/Articles\/Theme\/What-to-do\/Active-holiday\/Biking-vacation\/Routes\/\">Visit Norway<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.norske-bygdeopplevelser.no\/reiser\/uk\/Biking-1-143.html\">Norsk Bygdeopplevelser<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you might imagine, there are excellent cycling routes all over the country. \u00a0You can enjoy the rolling hills, steeper mountains with winding roads and waterfalls at your side, the arctic tundra up north, and the far south with lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>If you enjoy the sport of bicycling, but would rather watch, you can see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birkebeiner.no\/English\/Birkebeinerrittet\/\">Birkebeinerrittet bike race<\/a>.
