Confused about the date?In Europe people write the day of the month first, then month and year:)<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\nA number of small demonstrations took place across the country last Wednesday as groups of people hit the streets to show their discontent for Donald Tusk and his coalition government.<\/p>\n
The so-called \u2018Day of Anger\u2019 (\u2018Dzie\u0144\u00a0Gniewu<\/strong>\u2019), promoted on various internet sites such as Facebook, urged people to join the protests which took place in several Polish cities including Warsaw,\u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Krak\u00f3w, Wroc\u0142aw and Pozna\u0144.<\/p>\nUsing a mixture of anti-government chants (antyrz\u0105dowe\u00a0okrzyki<\/strong>), banners (banery<\/strong>) and burning effigies (palenie\u00a0kuk\u0142y<\/strong>) of the Prime Minister, demonstrators rallied against a number of current issues such as the ACTA agreement, the recent signing of the EU fiscal pact and plans to raise the retirement age to 67.<\/p>\nHowever, despite much promotion on the social networking site – which used the slogan \u2018PO and PSL cabinet, the government of incompetence, the government of defeat, confusion and lies\u2019 – the event failed to attract the same numbers as January\u2019s ACTA demonstrations.<\/p>\n
Several hundred gathered in the capital, while cities like Katowice, Bielsko-Biala and Gda\u0144sk witnessed over 100 people each.\u00a0One of the poorest attendances was in Krakow, which reportedly saw only a dozen or so people turn up.<\/p>\n
So don’t worry, it is not a national holiday in Polish calendar….just recent news.<\/p>\n
