{"id":3312,"date":"2012-06-26T23:51:56","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T23:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/?p=3312"},"modified":"2012-06-26T23:51:56","modified_gmt":"2012-06-26T23:51:56","slug":"tv-sales-surge-in-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/tv-sales-surge-in-poland\/","title":{"rendered":"TV sales surge in Poland!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Polish shoppers are spending more than analysts expected, adding resilience to the economy at a time of growing crisis in the rest of the EU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The government\u2019s statistical agency on Tuesday released retail sales numbers for May, showing a 7.7 per cent increase over the same period in 2011, with the European football championships playing a key role in boosting business by encouraging Poles to buy televisions.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2012\/06\/Unknown-11.jpeg\" aria-label=\"Unknown 11\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3313\"  alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"186\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2012\/06\/Unknown-11.jpeg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ernest Pytlarczyk, chief economist with Poland\u2019s BRE Bank, wrote that almost a quarter of the overall increase was due to higher sales of televisions and white goods, probably the result of Poles upgrading their AV equipment to watch the tournament, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">That is also borne out by data showing book sales slumping by about 10 per cent \u2013 who has time for reading when the tournament is on?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The 7.7 per cent increase in the headline figures compares with 5.5 per cent for April. In volume terms the rise was 4.3 per cent, up from 1.8 per cent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Despite the robust numbers, there are some signs that the Polish economy is slowing \u2013 although its trajectory is still better elsewhere in the EU.
